    I don’t blame Ben…

Any person who isn’t already wealthy would be stupid to turn down the job. If someone gave me a multi-million-dollar contract to direct movies, I’d do it. So what if I suck and get fired? Some fans and my employer get mad, and I have to deal with short-term discomfort and embarrassment...

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Stop being so harsh on Ben. He’s clearly tanking for Wemby.

BREAKING!!!! Dennis Evans ask for release….

I’ve always found this argument interesting. Are there examples of other D1 programs in major cities that don’t struggle with NIL stuff? If so, what’s unique to Minnesota’s situation? Is it the administration, apathy in the fanbase/locally, lack of rich alums who care about college sports, a...

    Gopher basketball is cursed

The Gophers (hell, Minnesota sports in general) may be cursed but this is not one of the examples. Hire a super unqualified coach. Unqualified coach is out of his depth and the program becomes historically bad. Top players say “no thanks.” This is a pretty clear A to B, cause-and-effect line.

BREAKING!!!! Dennis Evans ask for release….

I usually feel some animosity toward a good recruit who backs out (probably shouldn’t). But here I don’t hold anything against him. Just a smart, practical, and obvious choice. I would’ve done the same. I mean, I had free, good seats to see the Gophers play in Lincoln on Saturday. I gave them...

Early Big Ten Football Predictions for 2023 (Big Ten West: 3. Minnesota)

Trying to rank the Big West teams like this is a fool’s errand at this point. It’s some mix of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, maybe Illinois, and then the others.

Braelon Oliver (Sr LB) Into the Portal

I’m with everyone else who thinks this transfer craziness is bad for CFB. Especially combined with NIL stuff, crazy coaching salaries, bowl opt-outs, and the erosion of geographic/cultural identities that come with conference realignment. I definitely think players should be able to cash in...

Ranking the 41 college football bowl games from best to worst (28. Pinstripe Bowl: Syracuse (7-5) vs. Minnesota (8-4))

There are some…questionable takes on that list. Troy/UTSA at 8? Duke/UCF at 14? Arkansas (6-6)/Kansas (6-6) ten spots ahead of us? Also BYU/SMU and South Alabama/Western KY ahead of us? I get Syracuse/Minnesota in in a cold baseball stadium isn’t a sexy matchup but sheesh.

Syracuse fans reacting to Minnesota fans reacting to playing Syracuse

Like 85% the location/venue. Also partly that we’ve played Cuse before, so there’s no newness angle. And, to be frank, we would’ve preferred a “helmet” or SEC school for the bragging rights (if we win). But on that last point, I’m sure Cuse fans would say the same about Minnesota.

    Northern Bowl Games

Nashville and Charlotte are the farthest north bowl games should be played (east or the Rockies anyway). You can get relatively warm and sunny winter days there, but getting something like 48 and partly cloudy is much more realistic. Not bad football weather for us B1G people, but not exactly a...

Syracuse fans reacting to Minnesota fans reacting to playing Syracuse

Some funny comments in there. Unsurprisingly, many of them have an inflated view of their own resume. Yeah, ours kinda sucks. But their best accomplishments are a win over Purdue, a win over NC State, and a close loss to Clemson. Doesn’t exactly strike fear in the hearts of anyone. In any case...

    Iowa vs KY in Nashville

Lately this bowl seems to have a liking for geographic proximity. Purdue and Tennessee last year, Kentucky and Iowa this year. Iowa isn’t really “close” to Nashville but it’s a doable drive, as is Purdue. Kentucky and Tennessee are in Nashville’s regional backyard.

OFFICIAL: Minnesota vs Syracuse in Pinstripe Bowl

I don’t get how people defend this bowl. Even if it’s a “fair” selection (it’s not), it’s just an objectively bad bowl. No one wants to watch a cold weather mid-workday game in a bland baseball stadium. Especially against a non-football school.

    Bowl Game Projections?

It’s a huge bummer that both the Pinstripe and Mayo bowls are early on a weekday afternoon. That’s a workday for me and lots of corporate America (even if it’s a half-hearted workday). Edit: Syracuse would also suck as an opponent because (1) they aren’t a “football” school, (2) Pinstripe May...

    Bowl Game Projections?

I like to think of bowl opponents in recruiting terms. Which would we rather PJ be able to say to recruits: 1. I’ve won bowl games against Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Auburn, and Syracuse/Duke. Or 2. I’ve won bowl games against Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Auburn, and Florida State. Seems...

    Bowl Game Projections?

If we get the Pinstripe, maybe a Minnesota team can finally win a big game in Yankee Stadium.

    Bowl Game Projections?

The “Minnesota doesn’t travel well” narrative is such a self-fulfilling prophecy. Minnesota gets shafted in bowl selection so Minnesota fans don’t travel. Bowls say “see, Minnesota doesn’t travel.” Rinse and repeat. The only advantage Pinstripe has over Charlotte is that there are probably way...
