I think this is why the CFP stipulated that the top 5 "ranked" conference champions get an auto bid and only the top 4 ranked champions get a bye. If a 3-loss champion won their Power-4 conference (highly unlikely), they probably wouldn't get a bye and might not even make the tournament...

It was a total joke. The field conditions in Yankee Stadium were terrible and unsafe for the players. Shitty sod over frozen turf. Similar issue with the game in the Rate Bowl in Phoenix. The Gophs deserve a game not played on another crappy baseball field.

In reading past years' bowl selection writeups for the BG10, the conference groups teams by similar rankings and records which usually means 1 game +/- cushion in overall record; meaning an 8-4 team could jump a 9-3 team for a higher rated bowl. Bowls don't care about conference seeding criteria...

I refuse to let my mind wander to the Gophs in the Pinstripe bowl. They were just there two years ago. I believe the BG10 has an intended goal for the non-elite bowls of 5 different teams in a 6-year period which would hopefully keep the Gophs out of the cold.
