The future of championship games is in jeopardy - Yahoo Sports

I think this is why the CFP stipulated that the top 5 "ranked" conference champions get an auto bid and only the top 4 ranked champions get a bye. If a 3-loss champion won their Power-4 conference (highly unlikely), they probably wouldn't get a bye and might not even make the tournament...

    Transfer portal

The simple fact is that QB is now a portal position. 10 of the top 13 BG10 QBs in yards are past or present portal players.

Former Mr. football Emmett Johnson in the portal.

Was the guy a late bloomer? It looks like Nebraska and three MAC teams were his only FBS offers.

The future of championship games is in jeopardy - Yahoo Sports

Even though your comment is fully tongue-in-cheek, it holds a kernel of truth. There's a point where the conference championship games could become a secondary thought for those with national championship aspirations. Kind of like the last games in the NFL season where playoff teams have already...

Case in point... "If our team all got COVID today and didn't play we're in."

Where does Minnesota's 2025 recruiting class rank all-time under P.J. Fleck?

The portal/NIL, both for getting new players and retaining quality players that might have been better than their star-ratings (Ersery is the perfect example), is just as important as the HS incoming class.

The future of championship games is in jeopardy - Yahoo Sports

I agree. I think the conference championships made more sense under the bowl game system but a lot less sense now with the expanded play offs.

The future of championship games is in jeopardy - Yahoo Sports

This makes sense. I mean, the selection process used to pick teams to play in the championship game is already somewhat arbitrary and uses multiple levels of tie breakers. It's just another game. Oregon is undefeated in conference but they still have to play Penn State which gets selected over...

The future of championship games is in jeopardy - Yahoo Sports

“How can it be a detriment for someone to play in a conference championship game?” ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said. “If you want to kill the conference championship games, have somebody who is within the top 12 play for a championship and have them fall out and be leapfrogged.”...

Gopher Football 2025 Schedule - How Many Wins?

Get back to me after the Game 3 Cal game so I have a feeling for the QB and O Line play. If it was this year's Gophers in the second half of the season, I'd say 3-0 Nonconference, and 6-3 Conference

Gophers get 5 seed in the "7-5 Playoffs" face Texas St in first round

Minnesota is a #3 seed in that tournament. I'd watch.

So what’s next? What Bowl Game we thinking?

I totally forgot about Nebraska. They should be in the Rate or Pinstripe, but the hungry fanbase might make them more attractive to a higher bowl.

So what’s next? What Bowl Game we thinking?

Yeah, Iowa won't have almost half their regular season offense in the bowl. One would think that might impact things? Assuming the BG10 is locked into the Pinstripe, I wouldn't be surprised if Iowa gets slotted in there. Same as they did for MN with an 8-4 record in 2022. It shouldn't be MN or...

Which Gophers will opt-out of the bowl game?

It was a total joke. The field conditions in Yankee Stadium were terrible and unsafe for the players. Shitty sod over frozen turf. Similar issue with the game in the Rate Bowl in Phoenix. The Gophs deserve a game not played on another crappy baseball field.

So what’s next? What Bowl Game we thinking?

In reading past years' bowl selection writeups for the BG10, the conference groups teams by similar rankings and records which usually means 1 game +/- cushion in overall record; meaning an 8-4 team could jump a 9-3 team for a higher rated bowl. Bowls don't care about conference seeding criteria...

So what’s next? What Bowl Game we thinking?

I refuse to let my mind wander to the Gophs in the Pinstripe bowl. They were just there two years ago. I believe the BG10 has an intended goal for the non-elite bowls of 5 different teams in a 6-year period which would hopefully keep the Gophs out of the cold.
