    How would someone "address" this?

    Parker Fox commit to Minnesota

How about a Big Ten PoW award like Zach Puchtel! Pretty sure he had one that week he went off. Great story.

Dick Vitale sounds off: This transferring all over the place is going to destroy our great game

Schools invest in young kids in hopes they can grow to be contributors down the road on their sports teams. It isn't right for there to be no obligation on the part of the players. I get your point, but don't pretend there's only one side to this coin.

Pitino averaged 5.8 new players each season, 50% turnover, BJs first team will exceed that rate.

But Wisconsin! is my new obsession. There are something like 350 Division I teams and looking at a total aberration is not how I would go. (Dick Bennett & Bo Ryan clearly aren't normal coaches.) How about what Frank Martin has at South Carolina or the decade it took Scott Drew to get Baylor...

    Gophers roster construction-expectations vs. reality

College basketball is going to have its own Lake Superior St. That school won 3 NCs in 7 years and finished runner-up in another. They did it with older players and forever changed NCAA hockey. Looking like Gophers will be 22-23 years old. A good thing probably.

I went to school with 27 Jennifers. 16 Jens, 10 Jennys, and then there was her.

Doug Woog Era About to Begin?

2017 - Sims Reuvers Davison Thompson Wright 2018 - Gach Omersa Kalscheur 2019 - Hurt Wahl Jones Roddy Battle 2020 - Suggs Garcia Dainja Walton Easy to look back with 20/20 hindsight and find 7-8 guys that would do well at NCAA level. Some players in NBA now so you wouldn't have been able to...

Doug Woog Era About to Begin?

Theory is one thing, practical reality another. Recruiting has a lot to do with need. It's why Rickey Foggie played for the Gophers and not Nebraska or Oklahoma. Basketball doesn't have a lot of playing time to dole out like hockey. FIgure only 8 guys play more than 15 minutes probably, with...

    How did Gonzaga do it?

A friend's son played for Calipari at Memphis. When I asked about the level of play (C-USA wasn't the SEC or ACC) he told me, "Cal likes it. They have a lot of soft games and can schedule a few top opponents out of conference." It was something he carried over from Massachusetts. I think...

Hey! Look at who is back in the transfer portal and who else just entered it

Seeing there are 500+ players already listed in the NCAA transfer portal for basketball makes it pretty clear that a lot of kids aren't really tied to the schools they attend academically. Just in case there was still a question about that.

Are we really going to suck next year? I mean, Really??

We already know Penn State and Northwestern will be dreadful too. I'm not convinced Nebraska will be that much better right away. For most of this season I felt they were the worst B1G team ever. Admittedly, they did play better at the end. So there's clearly company at the bottom, whatever...

    AAU vs. Highschool recruiting

Yes! I remember one of the recruitniks (Bob Gibbons, Clark Francis, someone else?) saying, "if I see they committed to Duke I'll move them up a little." So how do we explain Aliou Kane? lol

When can we start expecting better recruits?

Good stuff, Windy. I'm working on a very similar study right now. It seems, with few exceptions, Bo Ryan would bring in players and they'd apprentice for two years before stepping in to major roles. Sprinkle in the occasional mid-low recruit that blossomed into a superstar and they were...

High-flying Division II transfer Parker Fox talked to Gophers among long list of suitors

This is from the Marcus Fuller article Fox had no Division I scholarship offers after his senior year at Mahtomedi in 2017. He was a standout high jumper in track and field, but he decided to pursue a basketball career at Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D. They were the only Division II program...

    Whose Coming Back for 2021-2022?

This, sadly (to me), is what college basketball has become. Good year from Garcia at Marquette? Transfer! Not playing as much as you hoped? Transfer! Any adversity faced? Transfer! Too portable for my tastes, but it was nice knowing that this allowed Pitino to piece together enough of a...

    Whose Coming Back for 2021-2022?

That's some list. Daryl Mitchell was incredible for the Gophers. DeAndre Mathieu as a holdover would be acceptable. Probably asking too much to expect Nate Mason or Andre Hollins.

Who has led the Gophers to the NCAA tournament?

Here's an interesting one, 1986-87 Iowa Hawkeyes that went on to the NBA: Brad Lohaus Kevin Gamble Bill Jones Roy Marble Ed Horton B.J. Armstrong Les Jepsen Al Lorenzen, who may have been named the Vanilla Gorilla?, was also on the team and considered pretty good. Matt Bullard was at Colorado...
