He does not get high marks from me for this season - our offense simply was not that good. He also was bounced out of PSU the year before. I thought Morgan regressed quite a bit and the play calling was suspect at times.
I wouldn't have fired him here but I would have been watching him...
LOL -- I think it went something like this:
KC - PJ - I am afraid I have some bad news for you - I am leaving again to go to Rutgers.
PJ -- What? Didn't you just get a hefty raise a month ago?
KC - Yeah but I want to go back home again.
PJ - How did that work out for you last time? It was only...
Well..........Ciarrocca had a great run the first time here and QB Morgan was at one time projected as a first round draft pick. Since then Ciarrocca was bounced out of Penn St. after one year and the Gopher offense did not impress too much this year. Morgan regressed and will probably not be...
they are very good -- but I think Fleck finally has as much or more talent than they do. He has really levelled the playing field vs. Iowa and Wisconsin even though the results vs. Iowa aren't quite there. But we go into the game as a coin flip and eventually those games are going to start...
It sets a bad precedence to take him back at this point. You tell everyone on the team that they can leave to try out a year somewhere else and we will take you back if it doesn't work out. I can see a college coach saying -- "If you leave in the portal you are not coming back."
With that said...
that may or not be true but I tell you one thing -- we certainly would have done a lot better than 63-7 that's for sure!!
The Gophers have now won 6 games in a row. I think that only adds credence to the theory we aren't going to good enough games. Maybe -- just maybe -- the team that got...
you are correct!!!! But I seem to remember Mr. Knight using that as well if he got the lead. Basketball was VERY boring back then!! Watching 10 minutes of passing the ball back and forth wasn't too fun to watch!!!!!
Our mindset on defense is getting much better and it is light years ahead of the Glen Mason days. Unfortunately, our return mindset is to fair catch everything and take it wherever the kick lands. (Maybe a little better the last few games, though!)
At no point during that game I thought the Gophers were in trouble and we might lose. It was an ugly game, but I think PJ Fleck made the call to just get out of there with a win and go into his version of Bobby Knight's "four corner stall defense."
This was the best take of all the posts on "playing not to lose." Offensive and defensive play calling is an art form and there needs to be a bit of a gambler in there as you have to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em. The biggest coaching gaffes this staff has made weren't from...
Whew -- gotta disagree with you there, Murray. While Ibrahim is certainly a great college back and has done great things for us he does not have the explosive break away speed that Irving has. Irving should go much higher in the NFL draft than Ibrahim and will probably enjoy a much more stellar...
Daniel "Action" Jackson is definitely a playmaker and deserves to see major action along with Chris Autman-Bell as our top two receivers next year. The new receivers should be fun to watch too!
Lett's just get our QB back healthy though, ok??
