    Keinys to Pacific

Before I was a Scottsdale Gopher, I was a Stockton Gopher. My first day at work I bought a newspaper. The front page said “Stockton Leads Nation in Violent Crime, Again.” It’s a really tough place and has earned its reputation. I got in a fender bender and was physically threatened at the scene...

Cam Christie #8 in top players uncommitted in Transfer portal.

That's a really high bar for anyone to clear. Of the players on those rosters, here's the list of guys that received NBA minutes at 19 years old (Cam's age next season): Anthony Edwards (full season) Daishen Nix (24 games) Aaron Gordon (47 games) Jamal Murray (full season) The only team that...

Cam Christie is entering the Transfer Portal

The one I quoted "laughed" and there was another poster that derailed the thread arguing he isn't a Top XX player. That's belittling in my book. Cam - like most 18 year olds - would benefit from another year of development before playing in the NBA. It's an open question as to whether the best...

Cam Christie is entering the Transfer Portal

Really incredible outlook from some purported fans on here to belittle a (soon to be former) Gopher about his professional prospects. He’s a really good player who - based on current info - would be drafted in the second round. That’s good for Cam and the program.

Cam Christie is entering the Transfer Portal

NCAA basketball was a very different product then. Most players were staying three years before early entry, so you had to have a much more advanced game in order to see the floor as a freshman. The NBA also had a lot fewer players from overseas, and the G League did not exist, making the NCAA a...

Cam Christie is entering the Transfer Portal

The Ringer (Kevin O'Connor) just released its first NBA Draft Big Board. Cam Christie checks in at #44. If he's getting similar feedback from teams, I would assume he will stay in the draft given next year's class looks stronger...

How many of you think these pre-season rankings of the Gophers are $#!+?

I'm a 'Maybe'. There were a lot of compounding problems last year stemming from the offense's inability to stay on the field. If the QB is a meaningful improvement and the depth at RB is as good as it appears to be, we should be able to stay on the field more frequently. That said, it's...

STrib: Donors to Gophers face a decision: Give to the school or to the athletes?

I run a NPO and I can assure you that relationships in that space are not nearly that simple. Further, categorizing DTA and other collectives as a charity is completely inaccurate, and that distinction is a big reason why some ADs have pumped the brakes on this issue. This board has an...

STrib: Donors to Gophers face a decision: Give to the school or to the athletes?

To me, this reads like DTA and other collectives have no agency to produce results or build their own portfolio of relationships. I agree that administration needs to support DTA, but to what degree will be determined by a lot of factors. One of which is the administration's belief in the...

STrib: Donors to Gophers face a decision: Give to the school or to the athletes?

Why is this exclusively an Athletics Department issue? Does this not also indicate a lack of trust or belief in DTA and its leadership? Why should an organization cultivate long-standing relationships - which are generating tens of millions of dollars for transparent purposes - simply hand them...

Gopher Basketball Portal Money - $1 Million

Discussions like these are a reminder that DTA and other collectives have no obligation to be transparent. True non-profit organizations do have that obligation, and it allows donors to understand the impact of their support. Transparency also ensures current and prospective donors know how...

Former #Gophers DE commit transfers to MN from Clemson.

I wonder what is the percentage of early enrollees who transfer before the end of the first semester? We could see a trend of early enrollment becoming a trial period wherein recruits have the opportunity to gauge whether their experience matches their recruitment. If you did the work to be able...

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

I don't understand this way of thinking. Pretty clearly there are rules/contracts as the original tweet from Goodman indicated the players are waiting for their final payment to clear before announcing their plans to transfer. Most people try to maximize their compensation and benefits once they...

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

Really interesting player. Competent shooter, good rebounder for his position, and draws fouls. Seems like the kind of player who could compete with Mitchell, and if he doesn't win the battle, spell both Mitchell and Christie. Of course, who knows what kind of role he's seeking.

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

I wouldn't blink an eye at that being the outcome. I do wonder if the Gophers NIL money would be distributed differently if the coach were not entering a make or break season. e.g. Would a coach more secure in his job choose to pay Payne (2 years of eligibility) instead of Garcia (1 year)?

    Big Men

Worth mentioning - since we're shopping for bigs - that DJ Burns basically replicated his per game rebound average from the SOCON in the ACC. He also increased the minutes he played per game, pretty incredible for someone his size.

    Braeden Carrington in the Portal

My goodness. I think Braeden was going to have to compete to be the 7th man for the Gophers next season. I'm not sure what kind of landing spot he can find that would pay more and include more playing time.

    Braeden Carrington in the Portal

Bingo. This is what I was saying in the Payne thread. Carrington and PP are exactly the type of player Ben was brought in to recruit and retain. If they are leaving, what are his strengths as HC?

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

On the surface it feels like a knee-jerk reaction to say this should result in making a coaching move. But the reality is CBJ has been given a lot of latitude to build and the strongest argument for keeping him was that he would have a top half of the B1G team next year with an opportunity to do...
