I'm not sure how this is a debate. Both statements are true: a lot of high impact research is done at non AAU universities; the top research institutions are all members of AAU. They're not mutually exclusive.

Thank you for sharing the list. I'm pretty sure Texas and Oklahoma would only change conferences as a pair, which is why the Big Ten wasn't an option (Oklahoma is not AAU). Other schools that some are mentioning are also non starters for the same reason .

Sure, why not? To broaden even further it could be any player that wasn't that highly rated out of high school and just took a few more years to develop, the kind of players that some fans crap on and deride the coach for recruiting who later turn out to be stalwart contributors to the team.
