Coyle: "We are not going to take the gas pedal off our football program. We want to compete at a high level."

Unless you do it too long and the wheels pop before you release the brake. 7 years is a long brake stand.

Coyle: "We are not going to take the gas pedal off our football program. We want to compete at a high level."

I don't really expect that Coyle could have done anything else this year given the way the season ended and the uncertainty. Maybe absent Covid he makes a move post season and maybe not, that would have been fair to critique. Now the best we can do is hope that Coach Pitino does well in the...

As opposed to the brake stand he's authorized for mens basketball for another year.

JD Spielman has taken a personal leave from the Nebraska football team

Probably just wants to be a Badger. Has too much red fan gear to come here.

Fleck says he's 1 of 200 senior leaders at the University of Minnesota taking a 1-week pay cut

It's more like a 25% cut in next months salary overhead, that's how a business would look at it. They aren't saying this is the end of the cuts, very likely if things don't improve there will be other unpaid weeks coming in the future. A 2% reduction in salary accross the board would look the...

Fleck says he's 1 of 200 senior leaders at the University of Minnesota taking a 1-week pay cut

Totally get it, maybe more cuts like this to come. But it would be nice for the university to throw him a bone right now (not monetary) and acknowledge what an outstanding job he and his staff are doing given the circumstances. I think you could make the argument that they are the top...

    Brohm and Purdue

If Brohm was a really good coach he wouldn't let his guys wear hoodies on the sidelines.

PP: Gopher linebacker Kamal Martin’s emotional ride continues into NFL Draft

Which is part Which is why the draft is so much fun and good predictions tend to have only 33% of the right players in the right spots after the first 3 picks. I'm looking forward to the draft coverage as much as I was looking forward to the Prince Tribute last night as a welcome distraction.

Indy Star: It was the hottest basketball sectional. Then attendees started dying of coronavirus.

You can't paralyze yourself with every possible bad outcome that exists. Yes that's a possibility. My mother in law has emphysema and we have suspended visits to her based on not wanting to infect her. But for the last few years we had already been taking that precaution whenever we were sick...

Indy Star: It was the hottest basketball sectional. Then attendees started dying of coronavirus.

Bolded statement can be factual and really misleading at the same time. Unless your going to randomly test 100,000 people (symptomatic and not) we have no idea what the death rate for contracting the disease is. Take Minnesota., We are testing a whopping 1000 people a day right now and you...

Indy Star: It was the hottest basketball sectional. Then attendees started dying of coronavirus.

Your right I missed it. Poor reading comprehension. But to your point. If my kid was playing in that game and I knew it was a 2 out of 1000 with the 2 being weighted towards elderly people with compromised health, the wife and I are going, but grandma's are staying home.

Indy Star: It was the hottest basketball sectional. Then attendees started dying of coronavirus.

63 venues +average of 2800 per venue = 176,400 people at the games. 5 people is .003%. One in their forty's, one in their 50's, one in their 60's, two in their 70's. If 5 people out of 176,400 died driving to and from the games that night would we cancel basketball due to the unacceptable...

End of Division I Sports as We Know It

Will be interesting to see how it pans out and if 10 years down the road we look back at the people who thought we wouldn't spend the rest of out lives wearing masks and basically not gathering in large groups for any occasion as quaint. Like the last caveman refusing to use fire because meat...

The Athletic Mock Draft: all seven rounds

I tend to think the NFL undervalues players with poor measureables. But I could see Vikings taking AW at 58 to fill a play now DB position figuring he is the type of player who is smart enough to contribute right away.

Name a Gopher you thought would be really good, but wasnt

Probably sacrilegious but I always thought Ariel McDonald was going to be better than he was. He was a good player, maybe it was watching him red shirt for a year and hearing hype about him the whole time.

    Politics aside.......doesn't it seem

I'm still working which helps as a distraction. At some point the mental health toll on my wife hearing minute by minute from every outlet for weeks now and about to stretch into months about how terrible everything is, is going to have a greater net affect on her physical health than the virus...

Minnesota kids you really enjoyed watching

Kevin Lynch, played against him in rec leagues pre high school, remember we were whooping up on a bloomington team and suddenly Kevin shows up hair soaking wet, just out of the showers from his last game with another team and we were toast after that. Was fun to watch him play as a gopher.
