Reusse Gopher Basketball Insights - Transfer Gossip, NIL Money, Facilities, Dutcher, Musselman ETC

Why is this such a problem. . .wanting their name on a building or room. . .? I can't believe I'm the only one who's been to many different athletic events at a variety of schools, some as highly regarded or more than U of M. I've seen facilities with names attached to the stadium, end zone...

Not sure if you're serious or not, but he was a solid player and if healthy will be a nice addition for wherever he lands.

Maybe it’s more about attracting the fan interest (potential major donors) who are a notch or two below that. There are 16? Fortune 500 HQ’s in MN. Something doesn't quite click, which is why …all the more respect for what PJ Fleck has accomplished. Need someone to sell the hoops program….

Love the Gophers but this could be a more well informed post (to be generous). “Any school in the south…” among the other ridiculous points. Yes the Gophers should be bring in top level talent…..not leftovers. If the coach cant seem to do it amd retain/develop them, then we will likely see a...

Treyton Thompson has officially entered the transfer portal

I'm old enough to remember Leo Rautins playing well for Syracuse. . . .fortunately Gophers were in a better position talent-wise at that time, but it still stung

Sometimes people look for trouble when it's not there. I'm no Ohio State fan, but I'd be shocked if Holtmann were on the hot seat with a #6 recruiting class coming in, and I think in his case when he says he's not leaving for ND, he probably means it.

Rob Senderoff has done a nice job with Kent State. They are probably 3 solid guards deep and we'll see depending on match up, will be interesting first round test for any team next week.

Agree but would call it more phase 2 of his redemption. He’s already been working it well at Iona (another NY Catholic school) and this just moves it up a notch.

I think mid-major doesn't really carry a lot of weight/meaning any more and hasn't for a while. Once Gonzaga got it rolling and established their brand, there wasn't really a lot of reason for Few to leave and I can't recall him ever really being viewed as close to leaving (even when his name...

He has $20M remaining on his contract, was just extended last summer, and has a top ten class signed for next year after losing Branham (after one year) and Liddell. I doubt he's going anywhere, but these days who knows.

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Some will remember Kellen Sampson as a player during Kelvin's time at OU. He's turned out to be a great assistant, and hc-in-waiting when Kelvin decides to hang it up. They really have it rolling it there, and no shortage of talent in that Houston area alone.

Shama: Gophers are a developmental program with a roster that has no five-star and few four-star players coming out of high school.

I think Gophers are equal to or in better shape than UWash and similar to Pitt. PJ Fleck has done a good job elevating and bringing consistency to the program (last year and a couple of tough losses this year don't change that). Recall Jimmy Lake didn't work out at Washington, and while they...

Baylor Schieierman enters the transfer portal

Fans often like to point to/infer cheating when players sign elsewhere. Seems anymore like it can be said about many programs.

    Jay Wright retires

I definitely see your point here. There are still a bunch of rock solid coaches, eg. Scott Drew is another, it's hard to name them all but your list is good start. I think as others have said the transfer portal is a big adjustment. This has probably been mentioned in the gopher football board...

    2022 Transfer Portal Discussion

Looks like Jeff Linder may have Wyoming in the tourney again next year. Two USC transfers, one from UCLA and a 6'10' prep recruit from Texas. This not even knowing whether Maldonado will be back. They still have Graham Ike also. Sure they've also lost a couple to the portal, but looks like net...

    2022 Transfer Portal Discussion

All the past Gopher example humor aside, I agree. See Arizona's loaded roster (ok not a proper comp), Boise State one key addition who made a big difference, U. San Francisco. A bunch of others eg. Davidson's Brajkovic who is really good. It just gets back to. . .who cares where the players are...

Fair enough. My point though, is about the team that did well during the pre and conf season and preferring they'd finish the job, not about how the conference governs. The good news is there will still be upsets, at least on Thurs/Frid of the first weekend.

I'm sure it was mentioned and I missed it, but Pitino and Iona lost a tough one yesterday to Rider, who went on to lose today to Monmouth. I kind of wish these lower tier conf top teams would take care of business in their conf tourney. I suppose those teams would likely lose anyway in first...
