A qualifying list of potential replacements

Too much complaining about NIL, other teams buying players, etc. NIL has not been a surprise that just hit the college game. Gophers and Ben Johnson have the same opportunity to retain their top players, and leverage the portal and it feels like they are too often having to settle. Example is...

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

Both teams have a different look vs one year ago, and still came out just fine including via portal. Myles Rice was a great pick up for Indiana from Washington State, and the Huskers filled some needs and held on to a few key players (!), and have size to make up for the injury to Reink Mast...

Until we stop bargain bin shopping for coaches, the result will mostly be the same.

And this is where it's going to be interesting in terms of limiting the pool of candidates (at least those that are acceptable here). You're going to have guys like Kevin Kruger, who I haven't seen mentioned, but is now in his 4th year at UNLV? Is that enough experience? It tends to be group...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS WAKE FOREST 3RD PLACE ESPN EVENTS INVITATIONAL IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I had to go back and look since I watched a little of a recent Wyoming game. Sundance Wicks was hired in May. He still managed to piece together an ok roster. Not saying he's the one, more just that it's inexplicable that the Gophers can have this little talent 4 years in.

All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

SMU willingly gave up 9 years of ACC tv revenue to make the move. They also just signed an extension with Lashlee, who has a fantastic QB in local kid Kevin Jennings, and a bunch of talent around him. If they keep Jennings healthy, they're going to be good for a while.

The Big 10/18: How Will It Shake Out?

I also feel Nebraska will be better. They also just signed the UCLA kid from Turkey who was a nice pickup.

You must know more of the back story, but Linder did well at N. Colorado before taking the Wyo job, and was off to a good start until Ike got hurt and ultimately transferred. McCasland is doing a nice job at Texas Tech. Adding Linder to his staff is a win for McCasland. Maybe re Linder just...

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

I'll go with you on the sports-mad. School pride for sure. But really misinformed to say "oil wealthy." It's super diverse in terms of how people have found success. . .Finance, Tech, Commercial Real Estate, etc. I suspect no different than anywhere else. A lot of school pride, hence they end up...

2024-25 Big Ten Free Agent Signings

Huskers have done well so far. Worster was also a really good/consistent player prior to his injury last year.

Pharrel Payne visiting Indiana this week.

You're talking about a very limited set of schools if you have to eliminate in-conference, the way things are headed. It would mean basically SEC, Big East or maybe B12, and that's it. I'm trying to adapt and accept things are completely whacky in college hoops, and either accept the change or...

    Go Get Musselman

Not really the case. It's possible to be both an excellent school academically, and also have deep pockets, both of which A&M does. Whether it's because they have a bunch of boosters who willingly cough up funds or some combination of that plus the school itself, fact is it's an excellent school.

Really good game. Shame Indiana State didn't make the field for the bigger tourney, but there are quality teams left out every year.

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

I thought the same thing. I almost posted it would be cool to see what he could do at an Oregon or Ole Miss-type program. It hit me that Oregon will have him right back in-conference. But man Altman can still coach 'em up, as can Beard.

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

There is pretty much no baggage with Payne the way he plays. Plays hard, quiet and goes about his business. Even the free throws improved. Ok, not a shooter, but the number of teams that have already, and will line up to take him speaks for itself. On a blue blood roster, he's not quite tall...

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

Not the case re: Nebraska. Others also felt they were going to be good. If anything, in my case it was a year late. I thought the previous year they'd move up.

Really a terrible outcome as there has been been in a while for solid bubble teams. UAB does have some talent so if they get through it’s a quality second team, but FAU def getting in from that conference then you have the tourney champ. This is a major hit to Indiana State and similar, which...
