Wondering what the odds are of going after Ohio State transfer DJ Carton to pair him with Carr in what would be an elite backcourt?
Why it could make sense...
1) Gophers recruited him out of high school (led by Ed Conroy)
2) He's from Iowa and could be looking to get closer to home in light of...
Thoughts...
1) Oturu's such a blessing. It's too bad his great year came with this year's team instead of last year's. He deservedly is going to be a 1st round pick this summer and make millions. Good for him!
2) Willis wouldn't start or play >15 mins per game for a good team. A poster...
Purely from his perspective, you can't help but think that Kerwin could be getting scared away from the program at this point. It seems like he's trying so hard to give this program a fair shot in his recruitment and maybe even looking for reasons to stay home, but the Gophers are giving him...
Love the score at this juncture! Gotta say though I'm very disappointed that Pitino has opted to go with Demir over Ihnen the majority of this half. That's a stubborn move in my humble opinion.
Yep, can't argue with that. Either got to be a good Xs and Os guy OR a good recruiter. Pitino hasn't excelled at either. I really really wanted it to work out for him here as he's really ingrained himself into the community and been a good voice for the program, but the position is 100% about...
Personally I like Pitino a lot as a guy so tough to see him *probably* go. He's not taking this program where it needs to go from a coaching perspective and I get that a change needs to be made. I think the inability for him to get one of Nnaji or Terry is going to indirectly cost him his job...
I agree, Oturu's still gone if he's a 1st round projection. Still going to support the team, but if Oturu is gone next year I just can't see this team being anything but a bottom 3 team in the B1G.
The Gophers did not score a single point in the final 5:25 of the game. Unfortunately, this loss effectively ends any NCAA tournament hopes barring a miracle run.
Captain obvious here, but we really need to start scoring. Have been in a drought for a while an Iowa's going to keep chipping away with Garza back in.
Good run and Gabe is getting it going! We absolutely need Carr to be better to win this game though. Right idea getting downhill and attacking but we need him to make some shots.
Sorry, not trying to stir the pot, but I'm a blunt person; just calling it like it is. They suck right now. Not saying they can't turn it around, esp if they get Hope and Elle back from injuries, but it's been a rough start.
I think if they miss it'll be easy to point to that game (and that's fair), but the loss at home to DePaul is the one that'll especially sting in my mind.
On the flip, crazy to think that if the Utah, DePaul, and Purdue games had flipped ever so slightly differently, we'd be looking at a 7-8...
I agree. Their strength lies with Reuvers and Potter. Oturu counteracts that and gives them issues. Gabe great defense taking away outside shooting threat a bit. Carr way too quick and physical for Trice to stay in front of. I think Carr can play much better against them in Madison in a few...
Also thoughts on players...
I've been vocal on my skepticism on Willis. Still am, but I gotta give him credit. He shot with confidence tonight, played strong defense as well, and had smart shot selection. Gotta hope that gets him going more.
Demir has his strengths and moments, but outside...
Important win! Also encouraging because Gophs didn't even play well the final 15 minutes of the game and still won by 18. (To be fair, the skunks played like absolute dogshit).
I strongly feel that the game in Madison is not only very winnable, but important, similar to the game @OSU a few...
