The list of coaches wanting to take the men's bb job is getting shorter. Pitino was way down the list and cbj had to be low too although Coyle wouldn't admit it. Agree it wasn't Ben's fault he was hired by Coyle. However, that can't be a reason to keep him.

Would agree, but who were the grad transfer(s) cbj had on this year's roster? Samuels 2022/23. He barely played at the end of the year. 2021/22 - NONE. Would think cbj would need to load-up on the grad transfers. Even though grad-transfers are one-and-done, they still want to win and...

Agree that MN has to hit the portal hard, but that's most teams every year. Problem is that portal players see MN with a coach on the way out and not many players want to go to a team with the coach on the proverbial hot seat.

Parity is partially due to 2 factors: (1) blue blood coaches retiring and (2) transfer portal. The coaches retiring may be due to the transfer portal too. Whatever the cause of the parity though, the result is a great for fans, teams, players and coaches. Unfortunately, the Gophers BB program...

Agree, and the result for Carr was due to the Texas coaching, which with Pitino was lacking.

Can't imagine the UofM Business School doesn't have a Masters in Analytics if that's what he wants to pursue. Why would the Business School administration care if an athlete was a student in the grad program? There must be some else... Regardless, would like to see Battle back in uniform for...

Had 3 kids that attended gopher bb games from before they could walk, graduating High School after 2012. All decided to attend UW Madison. Not only are many of the academics higher rated than the UoM, but their BB and FB tradition was a different level than the UofM. They'd never admit it but...

Pitino was coach for 8 seasons and Johnson was an assistant coach for 5 of those years. Johnson was supposed to be the "local" recruiter. If Pitino failed on the local recruiting wouldn't that failure be Johnson's too. And then to use local recruiting as one of the primary reasons for hiring...

The difference between "has brought in" and now is the potential transferee has seen what cbj is capable of and the chances of coach being around more than 1 year is slim.

Agree regarding Payne. But Payne and the remainder of the roster isn't NBA level, including Henley. Height, quickness, any shooting category (free throws, mid-range or 3's). I wish it weren't so.

Pitino changed his staff and added CBJ. Does that count? Pitino wasn't a total failure though; only 6 of 8 years was. Pitino would qualify as a veteran assistant since he's a former head coach. 😂
