When Ben Johnson was trying to recruit Minnesota kids to come here, he was doing so as an assistant. Maybe those kids just didn’t want to play for Pitino. I fully expect him to recruit Minnesota players well as the head coach and that will go a long way for this program.
His credentials seem pretty good to me for a first time D1 assistant:
- Played Big Ten basketball at a high level
- Coached for D1 MN, so has relationships there which would be helpful for recruiting that program
- Handful of years as a head coach in this state and did well enough to earn the...
So we should offer kids based what high school they go to? He was the composite #297 player in his class, which would be terrible for a high major recruit and he didn’t have any good offers. He clearly developed after high school like tons of kids do. You can’t expect coaches to see into the...
You say that as if we’ve had a ton of players in the portal. Are you actually basing the odds of Mashburn returning on that incredibly small sample? The situations are completely different too given that our coach was fired and we haven’t hired a new one yet. He may end up liking the new hire...
If three point shooting is your biggest strength, 32% isn't very good. Maybe he will improve though. I think Gabe could be a really solid player so I'm hoping they transfer here.
How many games did you watch? His defense improved toward the end of the season and he showed flashes of being a very good scorer too. Mashburn isn't going to make or break the program by himself, but if he ends up leaving, it is absolutely a very unfortunate loss. I really hope he reconsiders...
To be fair, I think all reasonable people would agree that the word "fag" is offensive to gay people, yet if you look up the definition, the top 4 results have nothing to do with sexuality or being gay. Most people associate plantations with slavery (I've never heard someone use that word in any...
Should we also wait for players to officially graduate/leave the school before we talk about who might replace them in the lineup the following season?
How many of the best basketball coaches played professionally? How many played at a high level in college? I get what you’re saying, but coaching and playing are entirely different things. If our next coach didn’t play in college that isn’t going to bother me.
Yeah, I have faith in him getting back on track with his shooting at some point, but he needs to put more emphasis on going to the basket. He's got nice touch around the rim and it's tough to contest his shots with all that length.
