On the topic of going for 2

I am thinking about the Chiefs-Bucs game on Monday night when Tampa elected to kick the PAT and go to overtime. It seems to me that when you are facing a better team, especially on the road, you go for 2 in that situation. That way you only have to be better than they are once. If you go to...

Starting to get excited. This is a cool match-up!

Feeling "greedy"? What fan base is not greedy? Plus, looking at our history over the last half century, we have largely been subsisting on starvation rations.

History of teams playing against their former QBs?

When other factors seem about equal, go with the team with the better QB.

    THIS DAY IN GOPHER HISTORY

November 4, 1967- Minnesota 10 at Iowa 0 On their way to a share of the Big 10 title, Gophers get a 17-yard scoring pass from Curtis Wilson to a tight end from North Carolina. He caught just 21 passes for Minnesota and none before his senior year, but would still go on to an NFL Hall of Fame...

    THIS DAY IN GOPHER HISTORY

You are correct! Wasn't that something? I was 11-years old and remember studying the "Sports Peach", as I always did on Sundays, So many photos showing how a play unfolded in sequence, with arrows showing the path of the ball. Now THAT was a sports section

    THIS DAY IN GOPHER HISTORY

10/28/61- #6 Minnesota 23 Michigan 20 Gophers rally from 20-8 4th quarter deficit. Down 2015, they are stopped at Michigan 2-yard line with 3:00 left. On the next play, however, a Michigan running back, who will go on to a 9-year career as a Chicago Bear cornerback, fumbles. It is recovered by a...

Describe the Gophers win over Maryland in 1 sentence

Gotta build depth but I HATE those consolation touchdowns that mask the true tenor of the game.

Flashback! Gophers win at Penn State in 2003 despite AAK only completing 6 passes for 54 yards. MB3 carried the way with 134 rushing yards. (video)

Mason showed some nerve that day. After going up 7-0 early, he ordered an onside kick that worked. 14-0 in 1st quarter, then the play-not-to-lose offense. Nearly backfired.

Homecoming Uniforms: Numbers on helmets against Maryland.

Love that photo- Roger Hagberg putting the game away with a 45-yard run in that historic 1 vs. 2 clash vs Iowa in 1960 (for you young folks who were not around then!

    Indiana

We are tied with Indiana for the longest drought. In 1967, the Gophers, Indiana and Purdue shared the Big 10 title. When Indiana came to Memorial Stadium with an unbeaten record in late October, the Gophers gave them their only regular season loss, 33-7. Agree tha t 2020 was a washout.

    2025 Road game

Went to the 2006 game at Cal. The Gopher seats were near one end zone and were old, wooden benches, with peeling paint and lots of splinters. Surely the place has been renovated since then. In the game itself, The Gophers scored first. The Bears forgot about Matt Spaeth and he took a cross...

18 Teams in the BIG TEN - Only one lost - Can you name them?

Guess which team did not get a cupcake. Silly.

    The inability to throw downfield

Yes. When PJ sees an opponent that the Gophers can physically dominate, like in the next two weeks, he will just run the ball 40+ times. These games could be good opportunities to give the pass game chances to improve.

Big Praise: Justin Walley Interception and Electric 70 Yard Return

I was disappointed that the network coverage never found the time to show the whole runback.

    The inability to throw downfield

The Gophers like ponderous road-grader types that promote the running game. Athletic guys with "good feet" are harder to find and rarely choose Minnesota.
