University of Texas head men's basketball coach Chris Beard was arrested and charged with assault on a family member.

Minnesota would have fired him for sure. Heck, any Gophers basketball coach who recruits well or has a contending team is in danger of being fired or hit with suspensions...regardless of their behavior. As to what everyone in this thread is speculating about...to me it all comes down to the...

I want a good GOPHERS team. I don't own a Marcus Carr jersey, even though he just put up 40 points. Do you? Do you follow the St. Paul Saints? Or the Twins minor league teams? Or the NBA G-League? I've said this before...if we're turning it all into a big joke, then why not go all the way...

We didn't bribe our transfers with money to come here. Yeah there's no proof yet that our freshmen & recruits will be good. I'm simply looking for a few 10 point games, etc. And by the last 5 games I'm hoping for some good Big Ten play from them. I'm hoping they don't get bribed away after...

I'm against paying normal students to attend college also. I think it's absurd...but so far, I can still watch if even if certain teams pay millions for a quarterback, etc. But I will quit watching if our freshmen get bribed away. If you think that's a good thing and continue to watch under...

Nobody is buying Mulroney jerseys. We buy college jerseys only for the school. It has to have a number on it...so yeah, might as well put the best players' numbers on it. But nobody cares about the players. I'm amazed that so many can't seem to comprehend this. And yes, paying players to...

Ben's first recruits are freshmen, they appear to have good potential, and they're getting playing-time. And we have very good recruits on the way. I'm hoping for a ground-up rebuild like Haskins did. This has nothing to do with Purdue.

I'm not saying our freshmen will transfer. In fact, I'm basing all my opinions on the fact that they'll still be here in 2 years. Others are saying we need transfers now, because we can't count on our freshmen not being bribed away. I'm just saying that if that's the case, I'm done with...

We've never had our good players bribed away by other teams before. If that's how it is now, I will quit watching. I highly disagree that the fans should love this. If we were smart...even now we'd spend more time in the gym ourselves rather than watching others do it.

Well he's already signing outstate 5-stars. And none of the coaches we hired since Clem have worked out...so why not at least let Ben coach his first couple recruiting classes?

I generally come down on the side that it's a free country. But a University shouldn't be running a professional sports team. Or if they do, they shouldn't be allowed to use the University logos or call the players 'students'. It's no different than students buying diplomas. Or Universities...

Yes, to me it matters why they leave. If our good young players are bribed away by cash...I think you'd have to be a fool to invest any more time in following the Gophers. There are other things in life to get interested in that would be better than watching this type of a situation.

Paying players to attend a school is an absolute joke. Straight out of the Twilight Zone or 1984. But everyone is so brainwashed by the smiling faces in suits-&-ties on television that they believe literally anything their told.

Yes, I will find another interest if our freshmen are bribed away. But no, fans don't pay to watch amateur players. Fans pay to watch their SCHOOL TEAM.

As long as we keep our freshmen & recruits, I'm happy. I want to build a base from the bottom up. If our freshmen or recruits are bribed away by other teams...to me, you'd have to be a fool to keep watching college basketball.

I'm basing all my opinions (building for the future, etc.) on this not happening. If our freshmen are bribed away by other teams...I will be done with college basketball. I will quit watching, I will say "goodbye" on here, and that will be the end of it.

Kevin Willard: Big Ten doesn't "understand how to schedule a basketball game," has caused its title drought

The top seeds have by far the best chance to win. Kansas, Kentucky, Villanova, Gonzaga, etc. are guaranteed a 1 or 2 seed every year.

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Haskins started 2-16 & 4-14 in conference play. Shouldn't we at least see if Ben can follow-up on his excellent recruiting class that isn't even on the team yet?

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

I've seen it hundreds of times. Every coach is blasted when the team loses, regardless of the circumstances.
