Which QB do the Vikes draft in 2024?

We spent $38.5M on the starting QB this year. $10M for Darnold, and $28.5M dead money for Cousins. That's exactly the same thing, in terms of who we can/can't sign due to cap room, as if we had no Cousins dead money and gave Darnold $38.5M. How can you argue otherwise? (It's very possible I...

Courts rule JUCO doesnt count against eligibility

I mean ... was New Hampshire a "true DI experience"?? I have to think not. No offense to that school, team, community, etc. But he got a taste of the U, and he can compete just fine at this level. Why shouldn't he get to start his eligibility clock all over again, at this level?

Courts rule JUCO doesnt count against eligibility

I just don't see why we can't make a new law that says schools and college athletes can do collective bargaining just like the pros.

I like everything you said here! But I see a potential (depending on how you look at it) fly in the ointment: what happens when SEC schools do allow it? (Unlimited eligibility, so long as the school determines the athlete continues to be in good academic standing.) You could say something...

Courts rule JUCO doesnt count against eligibility

I read part of the argument the judge accepted is that going to JUCO isn't at all like having a true DI experience. OK ... well .... doesn't that also hold true at NAIA? DIII? DII? Where does it stop?

How do you legally stop someone who wants to be a professional student-athlete from doing that for 20 years? Just keep getting new bachelor's degree after another. In good academic standing. School wants them, team wants them. What's the legal basis??

In the context of "teams this year are paying $X for a QB, and then able to A,B,C at other positions with their remaining cap space" .... We shouldn't be thinking of Darnold as only costing $10M this year. We should be thinking of him costing $38.5M. How can I say that? $10M for Darnold ...

What is a possible way to say that someone has run out of eligibility for college sports? Can't you keep getting bachelor's degrees forever? You can make a clock, but that is arbitrary, why can't it be challenged? You can say "maximum is one bachelor's and one master's/professional degree...

I just can't see how you can force a school to make a person be a student, if the school does not want that person to be a student and can justify either expulsion or not admitting them in the first place. That's completely separate from the NCAA and its rules regarding eligibility to play...

You can't force schools to accept a mid-semester transfer as immediately academically eligible to continue taking classes?? TI could see an avenue instead to go after the NCAA, to say that it shouldn't matter if the new school says he can't be enrolled yet, he should get to play for the team...

Who is an employee? Student athletes are not officially employees yet. The activist leader of the NLRB who allowed the Dartmouth mess to happen, just got s__-canned by the new administration. We will see, but I think schools will fight tooth and nail to prevent student-athletes from becoming...

But to Tucker32's point .... you can't do that, academically. Transfer in the middle/last third of a semester, I mean. You could transfer after the end of the semester. The concern of that would be a guy who transfers to a different school for the playoff. I hope they ban that

FCS final four are all Dakota schools and Montana State, who is coached by a former NDSU guy. If IVY's can give these schools some competition, great!

College football always needs to be 18-22 year olds (nominal case, there are exceptions of course) who are going to that school. If they make it like the College UFL ... guys in their 30's who don't take any classes, good enough for lower P5 but not good enough for NFL ... I'm out, for good.

Sorry to drive the thread off topic, if it is, but this is my opinion (for how little that is worth) on this stuff right now: College NIL and free transfers have now taken it above and beyond what is allowed/possible in the NFL under their collective bargaining agreement -- that is a bad thing...

Ivy League will Join Post Season (FCS)

I thought I understood that the "reason" (claimed) for not doing it was that the football post-season schedule interfered with finals. So then to me I say "OK, but so then what about the fall sports post-seasons, like volleyball?". Granted, they aren't ever expected to make it past the first...

That is a good point on having him in-house for enough time to get a feel. If that happened (your last paragraph), that would be WILD. To go with a WILD season :D Thoughts on franchising Darnold to keep him here one more year, as an option opposed to signing him for 3+ years? Does Darnold...
