All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I'm still alive, by the skin of my teeth--somehow, someway remembered that former Mets phenom Paul Wilson blew out his arm and resurfaced with the Rays, which saved me. I live another day. Just hoping the Marlins aren't popping up anytime soon. After solving today's grid, I seemed to recall...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

You inspired me to try for a perfect April and I was cruising along until today when the D-Backs showed up--however, I was able to persevere with recalling some big names from their early days (Carlos Baerga, Luis Gonzalez, and Randy Johnson). Heaven help me if/when the Rays/Marlins show up.

All Things 2024 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

I'm pretty sure they won't need to expand out to 14,000 seats--can't imagine any NoCal Athletic fans making the trek out to Sacramento with the way things are ending in Oakland.

All Things 2024 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

Regarding Diggs, it seemed like I played against him a fair amount in FF during the second half of the season last year in my two leagues; I kept waiting to get scorched, but I recall his numbers were pretty pedestrian during that stretch. Tonight I took a look and here's how things broke down...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

Another non Twins alert where I was able to heavily populate the board with Twins, using 8 of 9 squares (only Bert Campenaris got in the way for a sweep). Here are the legendary names: Reboulet, Tovar, Stahoviak, Castino, Hocking, Punto, Leius, and Harper.

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

No Twins alert today, but I was able to use 6 of the 9 squares on former Twins-my favorite being the immortal Willie Norwood (I’ve been sitting on this one for awhile):

    Requiem for College BB

Nope, I wasn't that guy--in its infancy, when the fun stories were emerging about offensive lines getting a little spending cash from a moving company or what have you, it had its charms but that went by the wayside quickly. And sure, perhaps my blanket accusations against the NCAA should be...

    Requiem for College BB

I recall in its early days of fruition, as you say, many proponents of NIL as finally allowing players to get a deserved above table, piece of the pie. I also recall a vocal minority of journalists pointing out that it was letting the NCAA off the hook--they were in essence outsourcing the idea...

    Requiem for College BB

I don't know that I have the right to pen this screed-I've lived out of country for the last 15 years and have gradually then suddenly became disengaged from what was my sport of kings, finding it difficult to keep consistent tabs on college BB and even harder to find a reliable internet...

2024-25 Big Ten Free Agent Signings

Reminds me of one of my favorite denigrating basketball nicknames--Joe Barely Cares (given by Bob Ryan for Joe Barry Carroll) It's tied for the gold medal with Dinner Bell Mel(vin) Turpin; I give Al (Vanilla Gorilla) Lorenzen the bronze because he was proud of his nickname.

Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

What else is Deutch in that I should see? She lit up all the scenes she was in and when I went to IMDB, I see she's been consistently working, but I don't believe I've seen anything else she's appeared in. I think I used those exact words--spiritual sequel--when telling a co-worker about the...

Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

Not really that old of a movie, but since its set in early '80s, Everybody Wants Some! has that feel to it and as I watched it last night I do believe it's the best two hours I'm going to spend this week. I certainly wasn't a member of my university's baseball team, so I can't relate there, but...

Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

I can laugh my ass off thinking of so many of the lines from this movie, while also acknowledging how cringy much of the humor/storyline is in the light of day. I look forward to watching this with my boys in about 10 years and deconstructing with them what was seen as standard humor in its day...

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

Perhaps the team will get an invite to the Paradise Jam tournament that occurs around Thanksgiving with their games played on the campus of The University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas

And since we're rolling out the baseball cards, one of my very favorite cards that's ever been in my collection (although it's a bit surprising they didn't label Oliva as Antonio):

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

My baseball card collection came through in a big way today, especially for the likes of Hartenstein, Cardenas, Wynegar, but none more so than Mulliniks--that was my last square left and I sat on it for awhile, trying to conjure the obscurity who I knew I had both as an Angel and Blue Jay back...

I don't know who the Mud Bowl QB is--I chose Bob Berry (.5%), Langer, and Carl Eller ended up at .4% for the Seahawks slot.
