Not that well-coached teams don't lay an egg once in a while, but nobody's going to mistake the Gophers for a well-coached team. No unbiased casual viewer of this game would think so. I'd exchange coaches with the Sycamores in a heartbeat.

They are def an NCAA team. Would've been great to watch them play in the Dance.

How bad can the Gophers play and still be in this game!?

No way. Not BYU, Saint Mary's, New Mexico, or Colorado. That's preposterous.

I still can't believe he gave up the ball--with a blind panic pass, no less! That mistake was the difference at the end of the game, no doubt. The Gophs were gifted one for sure, but they had to accept the gift (get a good shot on the other end and make their free throws).

    Pharrell Payne Free Throws

It's time for me to sing my line in the opera: this is a skill that can be taught and learned. Anyone who watched the progression of Jim Rowinski (Purdue) over the course of his college career knows that anything is possible. Heck, Eric Harris was an awful free thrower when he enrolled, and he...

Virginia was not deserving of a bid, but credit to CSU and Medved, who's just a fantastic coach.

That was such a thrilling finish! Way to pull the fat out of the fire, Gophers! Live to play another day.

    That would help.

Do you want Ben back for a fourth year?

It's hard to explain. Just like JOJ's usage is hard to explain. They go from starting when they shouldn't to not playing at all when they should, at least some. The Gophers ran out of gas in the Michigan State game, which they could have won if they'd been fresher. It's puzzling and maddening.

Don't let facts get in the way of a perfectly good narrative, man!

St. John's did indeed get hosed, in my opinion. Heck, they're a top-25 team in Kenpom and other ratings.

    Gophers in the NIT!!

The more I think about it, I'm sad about all these teams opting out of the NIT to get a jump on recruiting transfers. Just another unfortunate side effect of portal chaos: the inability for teams to be in the moment and participate in the season that's still ongoing. I'll guess I'll stop...

Do you want Ben back for a fourth year?

I see the championing of Johnson in the local media as being two things: A contrarian, I-know-better-than-the-rube-fans take that establishes the contrarian as the smartest person in the room A dismissive fuck you to Gopher fans who are being conditioned to accept the false narrative that...

Do you want Ben back for a fourth year?

Citing Target Field as a new facility that helped its team win might not be the argument you think it is. Nebraska is not Minnesota, and Hoiberg is not Johnson. Those are two very different people in two very different situations, one distinction being the levels of experience and known ability...

Do you want Ben back for a fourth year?

Keep in mind that "dwelling on the negative" amounts to simply reciting his win/loss record, which is among the worst three-year stretches in program history, if not THE worst. It's not hard to connect the dots between that and his shocking lack of experience and ability when he was hired...
