    3 Gopher non-con adds

With 76 teams in the tournament, the need for the Espositos of the world has declined. At this stage it’s not as much about NET rankings as just seeing some decent basketball in the non conference season. What is public now is beyond awful.

2026-27 Tommies Roster (updated May 25)

I should not be surprised by the juco route for the Sunmit and other low majors, but what is your assessment of whether it translates to on court success or not? We’re not seeing much juco attention at high majors anymore.

Iowa State AD’s frustration with Big Ten, SEC boils over: ‘Let ’em break away’

Love of money destroys everything. I’m willing take a stab at doing some really outstanding things with money. Perhaps donated by insanely wealthy 21 year old student athletes.

And half of the group would be paid losers. Sadly, probably us included.

All Things Class of 2027 Minnesota Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

The challenge with developing players is who really benefits from the development? If the developing team does, great. But it’s a high risk proposition. A lot of those guys will go to the highest bidder. Character is becoming even more important than ever. Give a guy a chance and need to have...

Iowa State AD’s frustration with Big Ten, SEC boils over: ‘Let ’em break away’

I’m pretty sure his issue isn’t with pay for play. It’s with revenue distribution among the schools. I agree that it may be inevitable that the power 2 take all the money but it could be a reform in college sports that is long overdue if the others band together and attempt to return it to...

STrib: Former Gophers standout Damian Johnson rising quickly through coaching ranks

I don’t follow high school basketball at all. Shocking that someone that successful gets sent to the curb. The population of Blake would seem to be influential and high maintenance. I would not want to administer a place like that.

Newsflash: Fran McCaffery (and his wife) are terrible people

And he’s not in the Bobby Knight coaching tree, either. I wonder how many modern players improve their performance after f bombs being hurled at them.

STrib: Former Gophers standout Damian Johnson rising quickly through coaching ranks

He will make a lot more money at Blake than Benilde. Interesting to see Blake make a visible commitment to basketball. Not sure they have ever been very good before.

Newsflash: Fran McCaffery (and his wife) are terrible people

Small college town media aren’t going to ruffle feathers of the coach who can freeze them out of access to the one thing the locals care about. It’s not really Frannies influence as much as it is the need for media guys to have access to the program. Any coach would have that influence.

Anyone willing to get into Kelly Pfiefer’s face can’t be all bad!

But probably getting paid a hefty sum. A very reliable source told me IU has a $30 million payroll for basketball. Yikes.

2026 Second Round Playoff Thread: Minnesota vs San Antonio

Isn’t that a requirement to be hired to coach in Minnesota?

Medved: I may be unpopular by saying this, but I feel like at some point we’re going to have to get to some sort of collectively bargained model.

Agreed, Niko but the challenge I see is that the membership of the CB unit turns over so quickly that it’s hard to believe anyone is thinking beyond a few years. And you might have to twist a lot of arms of the bottomless money barrel programs to ever agree. It strikes me that enforceable...

2026 Second Round Playoff Thread: Minnesota vs San Antonio

If one could succinctly explain to me what a premier league is, perhaps I could consider subscribing to four streaming services to participate. But I’m dense enough that it would not likely ever stick.

I didn’t even think there was an APR anymore.

Ham, how did this Palmer guy escape your reach of knowing all players and their relationship to the portal? 😉 Seriously was he a late entry?

I think Daniel’s and Ogele types are part of our local dust bin of history. The current administration isn’t going to waste time, energy, or money on players like that. Local walk ons that cost almost nothing are probably more valuable to the program.

Of course. We all did. I’m sure this probably Nikos highest priority in the portal. Just wanted to mess with us by not telling anyone and waiting so long. 😉
