    Gopher portal visits and signings

Don't forget Ethan Robinson from Bucknell who was very solid in his one year here. There was also Kyler Baugh from Houston Christian who took a little time getting up to speed but was a good contributor once he did.

John Nestor and Kerry Brown appreciation thread

Yes, I'm very glad to still have both of them. Of course, there is a very long thread about Perich (that I haven't read through) but I didn't see any mention of Za'Quan Bryan who I also saw in the transfer portal. I'm sorry to lose him because he was a capable DB and likely didn't make...

Ugh, Robert Vaihola will have knee surgery on Friday and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

"My team is on the floor" said Gene Hackman in Hoosiers. That's the psychology we have to have now. There is no help ready to emerge from the sidelines.

    Bobby Durkin...

I think what we're seeing from him now is who he is and has been. It just took him a little time to find his legs at his new home. He fits well with this starting lineup as the designated three-point shooter off the pass, a mid-range jump shooter on occasion, and a very reliable free throw...

***OFFICIAL FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Some people like to practice early in order to get themselves in game shape.

So, whether it's a national or regional publication, the Gophers don't get much attention. That's all right with me. I like being part of a niche fan base.

    Iowa Team Special

Not the worst idea in the world. Pick a few Minnesota HS teams for each of a handful of dates when high schools aren't playing and offer them free tickets. It's a no additional cost service that can create goodwill and favorable publicity.

All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

Sure, that's relavent but depending upon the results, not necessarily conclusive. If the two conferences meet in 3 bowls but the Big Ten is 2-1, can you really say one is better than the other based on those results?

All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

That may be true but you hope that a fair amount of that bias is worked out throughout a season. Imperfect quantitative ratings, especially by those who have been doing this a long time and have provided alternative ratings based on different assumptions, are still better than fans' subjective...

Calling Bobby Lee Cook: UGA files lawsuit claiming 5 star owes $390K for portaling to Missouri, reneging on term sheet proposal

Interesting! Thanks for posting that. We went from an environment with amateur athletes and some practical obstacles to transferring to an environment of de facto professional athletes with seemingly no restrictions on transferring but now contract law steps in to potentially restrict behavior...

All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

That wasn't my only argument. I also pointed out that most of the indexes rate the SEC higher too and I consider that better evidence than anyone's subjective feelings about the subject.

Describe the Gophers Rate Bowl win in 1 sentence.

Given that we've been held to under 300 yards by 6 of the 12 FBS teams we faced this season, I'd say the offensive performance was pretty normal. It must be said that UNM was an above average defensive team this season (#47 of 136 in points per game allowed). What was much better than normal...

All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

I firmly believe that one must consider the entire conference when evaluating a conference, not just the best teams. The SEC has a bit of an advantage when it comes to team records because they play only 8 conference games. It's not just an "ESPN driven narrative" that rates the SEC the...

The 2025 Gophers football season will be a sucsss if?…

I still can't be that angry about that game because it was one of our better offensive games, had 242 kick return yards, and were in place to tie the game at the end (I hope we have a new kicker next season).

The 2025 Gophers football season will be a sucsss if?…

Good post! Bar most certainly is raised for next season. As you mentioned, we had a lot of holes to fill this season and had to rely on uncertain transfers in a lot of places. Some of these (for example, Nestor, Weston, Tracy, and Biber were either really good or good enough). Some (like...

At least Pitt didn't lose to a MAC team in Detroit like last season. On the other hand, they at least took that game into overtime.

How would you rate Drake Lindsey in his first season as starting QB?

I rated him a "B" as a freshman and first year starter. If he was rated overall against quarterbacks in the conference, he would be below that. He will have to improve to maintain his ranking going forward.

What grade would you give the Gophers in the Rate Bowl win?

That's not on the defense. Had the offense given up turnovers there I would have counted that against the offense but they didn't.

What grade would you give the Gophers 2025 season?

I don't have the same grading scale for all teams. This team wasn't one of Fleck's "good teams." The defense had its share of moments, including tonight, but the offense was well below average for most of the season. Given the overall quality of the team, I'd say they performed at a B level...

What grade would you give the Gophers in the Rate Bowl win?

Because they held them to 17 points through overtime and gave up 3.1 yards per play. Also, their only touchdown wasn't against our defense.
