2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

Wasn't Butler the guy who would argue with fellow Dinkytown bargoers and sometimes disparage Brewster's coaching ability to said assembly?

2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

Totally agree. Pre-portal and to a great extent now, Northwestern keeps its players in the program and every now and then has a recruiting class that develops and puts up a stellar season (by their standards). They've been up and down, but they always play hard and smart. The consistent...

I'm way old and Vince Lombardi is rolling in his grave. Ever since Dan Campbell started going for in on 4th-and-whatever it's become a rage around the league. I don't care if you are home or away or playing on a neutral field, given the QB situation you really have to take the points down...

Poll: Which assistant coaches should not be retained in their current role?

Something has to happen on defense. Team was great at racking up sacks, but the yardage they gave up doesn't lie. I don't know that's due to coaching, overall talent, or just a bad mix of talent.

Gophers 2025 Movement Roster Thread - Transfers, Bowl Opt-Outs, Etc.

Interesting and well-researched list. Here are my reactions. (1) I don't believe Kollack will leave seeing he's burned his redshirt and probably wouldn't garner much interest because he didn't take a snap this year. That said, QBs want to play. He was well-scouted and well-regarded in high...

    Who walks on Saturday?

I have had the same thought. Scouts know about him, but being at a school with higher visibility (perceived or real) might up his profile.

    Brady Palmer commits

Geez. Right after Palmer's Bar closed. Think of the marketing partnership!

    Who walks on Saturday?

Smith and his advisors must be more confident than I am. Unless he blows up at the combine, he's currently looking like a Day 3 prospect.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS SANTA CLARA THIRD-PLACE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Agree. Can't be going back to Square One every year. Maybe it was because of injuries or holes in recruiting, but I thought the football team could have done better this off-season in repairing the O-line.

How would you grade the Gophers 2025 regular season?

I gave them a B. It was going to be a transitional year with a redshirt freshman QB. Blew leads against California and Northwestern and it's hard to look past that. Win those and I probably give them an A-. Just some bad work in the portal regarding the O-line. Improved O-line has to be job...

Is Emmett Johnson biggest miss ever

Like him or not (I tend to land in the "not like" column), Bielema had a string of great offensive linemen during his time at Wisconsin and I'm guessing Ragnow considered that when making his college choice.

Is Emmett Johnson biggest miss ever

I think the recruit that flipped to Michigan State was a LB named Jones (first name--and in truth perhaps the last name--escape me). Didn't we also lose Robbinsdale Armstrong WR David Gilreath in that coaching change or was that later?

Tony Rice was considering the Gophers (I don't know if he fully committed) when Holtz was coaching, but he followed Holtz to Notre Dame.

He must be really slow then because the whole team looks slow (couldn't resist the set-up). Seriously, it's going to be a long year. I think Medved has a better idea of what he wants to do than Johnson did, but you still need players. Medved will get a fair shake.

Is Emmett Johnson biggest miss ever

My brother taught at CDH and while he wasn't involved with the football program, he surmised that for some reason there was a disconnect between the U and the CDH program (and it lasted through a string of Gopher coaches). I remember it was a big deal when Brewster got commitments from John...

I think McCarthy will turn out to be a decent professional quarterback. From watching him, I think his biggest problem now is that he's too confident in his abilities and as a result is making a ton of bad decisions. He has to play within the game at this point until he has the experience to...

Is Emmett Johnson biggest miss ever

Gopher Mac is correct. Mason recruited J.J. Watt as a TE and seeing Mason had a penchant for putting all the athletes on offense, Watt is probably lucky that things turned out the way they did. Mason even tried to make 4-star Edge/LB Alex Daniels into a running back. He transferred to...
