The athletic dept. at UCLA is something like $100 million in debt, and isn't some of their B1G money getting funneled to Cal as part of some agreement? As mentioned, their facilities are really poor (they don't have a 100 yard practice field.). They're second fiddle in their own market to USC...

Correct. Like the NCAA does. And yes, that makes much more sense.

When I graduated, there was AA, A, B, C and 9-man (I think). Centennial was class A at the time.

I'm almost positive that's the reason. And it's a stupid one, but typical. To be fair, we aren't the only state that does this.

I will never stop thinking that this looks stupid. Why can't they just call it division A, B, C, D etc. Why does everything have to have an A?

And they're still like $100 million or more in debt. They have worse practice facilities than most of the conference, and they play about an hour away from campus with LA traffic. It's not a good job.

Yep. I hated this when I coached. We'd constantly have kids missing practice for hockey, soccer and baseball. And as much as you'd like to penalize those kids and reward the ones who are always there, you can't because of roster size, playing time requirements, and weight limits. Our basketball...

Yep. While a lot of sports are basically year round (or at least 9 months), football is more or less August, September and October. It's the easiest to drop if you want to concentrate on one thing.

Is Roseville like Hopkins, where you have a lot of kids in the district open enroll out, and are back filled with kids from the city open enrolling in?

I think it's more common than you think. Or if they feel they aren't going to get as much playing time as they'd like.

    Non-Conference Scheduling

MWC was fine once they added UTEP and made Hawaii a full member. It was the PAC that was desperate, and added Texas State. What's the closest MWC school to the xDSU's? Wyoming?

    Non-Conference Scheduling

PWO's not really a thing anymore with expanded rosters and scholarships I believe. The NDSU to FBS discussion has gone on for years. There's no home for the xDSU's and UxD's due to geographic isolation.

    Non-Conference Scheduling

Wouldn't Chicago have been a conference opponent at that time? How many times did we play Nebraska when they would have been a non-conference opponent? I thought they were the most.

I'm going to ask this again, since it dropped off... Are there there any real definitive sources for MN high school football records, or do they not exist since everything has to be self-reported by the schools? I feel like of all the sports, high school football has the worst record keeping.

The new stadium/field looks really nice. They were one of the last big schools to still have a grass field, and it was a shitty field 35 years ago. If I recall, they hadn't been able to host a track meet since the 90's it was so bad.

Kids are specializing earlier and earlier. And it probably hurts football the most, as it's a short season sport. Nearly everything else except maybe golf, is nearly year-round with club teams/tournaments.
