Students paying students: How the U is trying to stay competitive in athletics

I can see that point and a few years ago I would have agreed 100%. The game itself is more interesting. The off-field stuff has colored my thinking.

I have not heard the Dan Gladden Lombardozi story. Can anyone catch me up?

What Gophers home regular season non-conference game are you most excited for in Medved's first season?

Texas Southern or Alcorn State. Ben dominated the SWAC and I hope Niko can do the same. I have long pushed for a Big10/SWAC conference challenge.

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Absolutely. There are plenty of other idiots that parroted the narrative that you mention, including many in here, but Stewart Mandell and Dennis Dood need to be remembered as the ring leaders that helped kill college athletics. And they did so college athletes would think they were cool and...

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

I don't know I have seen a lot of posts that say just cut the non-revenue sports. I know it is not the stated goal, but that seems to be the theme.

Students paying students: How the U is trying to stay competitive in athletics

I agree with everything except how lucrative NCAA football is painted out to be. Some schools yes, but most no. And maybe they could be more lucrative as the point was never to make money before, but it is now. But I'll admit, I have followed the Gophs since I was a kid and watch a copious...

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Yeah, but that has always been part of the understanding. The socialistic nature of it made it still feel somewhat amateur. If the end goal(as many on here seem to want) is to get rid of the collegiate sports and become de facto second tier professional sports, then it is sort of pointless to...

    Gopher Hockey Recruiting

I'll have to admit, the bar analogy does make it make more sense. Now I kind of want a beer....

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

I like your posts upnorth, but can't say the argument of charge em a little more because they are already being charged a bunch moves the needle much. And $200 to someone paying their tuition probably with a job as well can be a lot of money. Maybe not to the guy with the 6 figure NIL deal...

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Does seem odd that post after post on this site says that sports are generating an ungodly profit and then they need $200 a student to pay the players.

    Gopher Hockey Recruiting

Yeah bonin is annoying, but amazing how seriously some take it, sort of like how amazing how serious bonin takes it. But the truth is even with his negativity, bonin and upnorth are the only two people that provide any insight and information on the hockey board, even though it is framed...

All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

I feel like this 6 game road trip is kind of going to decide this season. If we go even 2-4, I feel like it just isn't going to happen this year and we should just prepare to sell what we can.

‘Slap in the Face’ Motivates Gophers New QB Drake Lindsey

To be clear: 1)I would love to have the problem of him blowing up 2)I don't think he leaves even if that happens(even though admittedly, I don't' know him) But that being said, it is still worth taking note if a player says what he said. You have to admit this board would take notice if a...

‘Slap in the Face’ Motivates Gophers New QB Drake Lindsey

Not worried about it, but it may not be as impossible as you guys seem to believe if he excels. Bucky Irving and Philip Daniels left for money or hometown appeal. Like I said I think PJ and staff are in better position to keep guys around than many other programs. He said iArkansas was his dream...

‘Slap in the Face’ Motivates Gophers New QB Drake Lindsey

Being afraid of a flood and being prepared for one are two different things. We are ahead of other teams in our ability to keep players, but not immune.

‘Slap in the Face’ Motivates Gophers New QB Drake Lindsey

More money and his dream school in his home state seem like possible reasons.

‘Slap in the Face’ Motivates Gophers New QB Drake Lindsey

You hope he remembers our commitment to him if he blows up here. You just never like to hear about a guy on your team's "dream school" when it isn't your team.

CBSportsline had the Twins draft class as one of his top I am torn on this one. I certainly don't want to part with him, but I agree with CBSportsLine today. There isn't really anyone out there who is gonna draw a huge haul like Ryan. Still leaning to not trade him.
