    Gophers 2025-26 non-con schedule news

Without looking it up, I seem to recall that these in-season tournament games count as one game schedule-wise. If you play 3 games, it still counts as one, allowing you to play more games than what the NCAA would otherwise allow.

Couple College Basketball Arguments - Coaches and Rivalries

Almost all of these are close geographically. Gonzaga/St. Mary’s and Georgetown/Providence are rivals for different reasons. If we’re talking B10 and not the traditional geographically close rivals, MSU and UW is an underrated one - there was more heat in the Ryan era, but it’s consistently...

    Rutgers

What is true for every program that relied more on development and "system" is that that way really can't work anymore. Your system has to be simplified so new players can pick it up within a short time on campus. Getting players who fit still matters, but don't count much on roster continuity...

News: #MichiganState is parting ways with athletic director Alan Haller, sources confirmed.

One of those wealthy alumni is Mat Ishbia, who played for Izzo, made his money in the mortgage business, and is owner of the Phoenix Suns. He's given major dollars to MSU already - nobody has done anything close to that for MN.

ACC considering reducing conference basketball schedule to help boost the league's NCAA Tournament profile

Yes, but half the conference *are* cupcakes. To put it in perspective, both the ACC and B10 have 18 teams. Minnesota ended the year ranked above only one team in the B10 on Torvik (Washington). They would have ranked above 10 teams in the ACC. They're just bad teams right now. Going from 20...

St Thomas Basketball Censorship on the Golden Gopher Basketball Forum Poll

I agree that not everyone gives a crap about other schools in the area. Not everyone gives a crap about MN HS hoops or tournaments that the Gophers aren't in. Heck, *I* don't give much of a crap about UST. Just don't read those threads if you don't give a crap. So if it's that easy to avoid...

St Thomas Basketball Censorship on the Golden Gopher Basketball Forum Poll

Cool. I was getting the message that *any* post mentioning UST was going to be moved to the UST forum. Though I’m not clear on where the lines are … Is mentioning that the former Miami and then Iowa guy who’s from MN ended up there in bounds? Some (e.g. whipping boy and the...

St Thomas Basketball Censorship on the Golden Gopher Basketball Forum Poll

So, is a post comparing the kenpom or Torvik ranking of Minnesota and UST now out of bounds? My own personal opinion is that it's relevant to this board if the local P5 team is ranked anywhere in the vicinity of the local Summit League team. Would it be ok to point out that SoDakSt was ranked in...

St Thomas Basketball Censorship on the Golden Gopher Basketball Forum Poll

Btw, people saying they could care less are technically saying they care more than zero. What you mean is that you *couldn’t* care less. I am ambivalent towards UST (which I believe is the more correct description). Because of that, I don’t care if someone talks about them. If you do, you are...

St Thomas Basketball Censorship on the Golden Gopher Basketball Forum Poll

It is not like Xavier fans talking on a Cincy board (which probably happens, btw). It's like UNO news on Creighton's site or Robert Morris on a Pitt message board. There's just very little the programs (UST and MN) have in common other than geography. I do not understand why so many take umbrage...

Former Gophers guard Braeden Carrington is now a Badger.

My guess is they took a flier on him for his defense. I always have a hard time judging that in individual players, but he apparently has a decent reputation on that end. Wisconsin does value D as much or more than O, which is why a guy like Essegian lost his spot in the rotation in the year...

Seth Davis says Minnesota is 2nd-worst job in B1G | BMTN Interview

Iowa isn’t on that list really because they have been moderately successful for a long time - certainly more successful than Nebraska has ever been (who care about football and volleyball > hoops). We forget about USC who rivals PSU for empty arenas.

Seth Davis says Minnesota is 2nd-worst job in B1G | BMTN Interview

I don’t think Rutgers has a new arena. You can have an argument about which is a worse job, but RU (currently) has a rabid home crowd and a fertile recruiting area - both better than MN. OTOH, they are worse historically and played in lower leagues until joining the B10. I’d put that program...

Seth Davis says Minnesota is 2nd-worst job in B1G | BMTN Interview

My understanding is he also has a huge buyout, like $10m. The previous AD really handcuffed them. Without that issue, he’s underperformed enough to have been relieved.

Dawson Garcia Entering The Transfer Portal

That, and he'd have no leverage to get paid anything if his only option were to return to MN - this is a no-brainer. Kinda surprised it hadn't happened sooner, tbh.

Will you still be invested at the same level of fandom for men’s college hoops in the future as you are currently, based on all the changes now??

People, in general, hate change. That’s different than being disinterested though. I’m not disinterested and several posters hit the nail on the head when they admitted their interest is directly tied to the success of the team they root for. It’s human nature.

Analysis of 2025 Coaching Changes - is there a problem?

I continue to be curious about this, so I looked up what percentage of ADs are black. According to one source that appears to be from the NCAA itself, it’s 13% in D1.

Analysis of 2025 Coaching Changes - is there a problem?

You keep on opening your mouth and removing all doubt, FWIW, there are a couple of Asian coaches that were hired in this cycle (and btw, the aforementioned Mike Bibby has a Filipino mother). I specifically only counted Black coaches (and not the broader category of non-white) because Black is...

Analysis of 2025 Coaching Changes - is there a problem?

I've updated the list with 8 new hires - of the 5 first-timers, 2 are black coaches (added Alcorn St. and Clev. St.). The updated tally is 6 of the 26 first timers are black (23%). There is also one more non-first-timer black coach (at Grambling). Overall, 12 of the 52 new coaches are black...
