RandBall: Where’s the money? Gophers budget shortfall raises questions

I thought the total check that was going to be cut from the Big Ten was going up to $80M and then $100M+ per school per year? Coyle & athletic dept CFO might be playing some games with that figure, though? They have like 30+ categories in the financial report that they split revenue into.

New NIL Enforcement Targets Collectives, deals must serve ‘valid business purpose’

For those interested in catching up on what is going here, to me this series of tweets is pretty good. McCann is a sports lawyer and Dellenger I would say is currently the premier college sports reporter.

A rivalry with the Washington Huskies?

I forgot that Intel has done a lot of chipmaking in Oregon for some time. Wonder how that all came about? (Complete aside, Minnesota actually has a fair amount of solid state manufacturing as well, just not a very "sexy" segment of the overall market ... but we have it nonetheless!)

New NIL Enforcement Targets Collectives, deals must serve ‘valid business purpose’

That's why the schools have hired Deloitte to audit these deals. If you can so quickly and easily diagnose your above hypothetical scenario as a sham ... then surely they can as well. And, perhaps more importantly, they can diagnose that the amount being paid for doing that (very little bit of...

New NIL Enforcement Targets Collectives, deals must serve ‘valid business purpose’

Bold: you could be technically and legally correct. But it feels completely wrong to me. I know the analogy is a bad one, so I don't need to be lectured about how bad it is. I'm talking about how it feels to me: the NFL doesn't allow fans to buy teams (extra) players, in order to bypass or...

RandBall: Where’s the money? Gophers budget shortfall raises questions

Will be tough to cut women's sports (rowing), because of Title IX. If the SEC and other southern conferences won't give northern teams a fair chance to be competitive in baseball by expanding the season, then I agree, we should get out of the baseball business. Agree on golf, tennis as well...

A rivalry with the Washington Huskies?

Lot of tech jobs and money in Seattle area, Boeing, Amazon, Blue Origin, Costco, Microsoft, Expedia. Other big tech companies (Google, Apple, ByteDance, etc.) have a big presence there as well. Does Oregon have much going for it? Seems like a slightly more populated Idaho.

The Gophers need to get into the statue-erecting business too outside of Huntington Bank Stadium.

How much does a statue cost? Maybe we should start with one, and do a "Gopher Ring of Honor" for those 12?

When does the 2025 fall practice/training camp begin?

Isn't it usually 4 weeks before the first game?

    10-2 - tell me I’m wrong

Thought I've read they gave Brosmer a decent amount (maybe even a lot?) of ability to change the play or select from a multiple play call at the line of scrimmage? Being able to do that well requires recognizing the defense well. But if it works, it forces the defense to just sit in base and react.

Big Ten QB Power Rankings: Post-spring tiers for every B1G QB room (Very worrisome: Minnesota (Drake Lindsey))

Excluding covid -- that's my choice, I am going to do that, other people can choose to do what they choose -- the only "first three games" losses Fleck has had are Ohio State and North Carolina twice. That said, if you're being reasonable you have to go first four games for 2021, since that...

Big Ten QB Power Rankings: Post-spring tiers for every B1G QB room (Very worrisome: Minnesota (Drake Lindsey))

Also if that happens it means that Athan just for whatever reason really clicked strongly with Kirk C as QB coach & playcaller, and did not with Harbaugh Jr for whatever reason

    Fleck's Good Wins at Minnesota

Winning 10 out of 12 games is a huge deal. Say two easier nonconf "buy" games and one tougher P4 game .. so you either have to go 3-0 or 2-1 and then need 7-2 or 8-1 in conference. I don't see how any Big Ten program at Minnesota's level can get up to that consistently, without a huge increase...

    Fleck's Good Wins at Minnesota

Fleck has/is dealing with a few relatively different chapters/eras. The 2017-19 era, then covid year which doesn't even count in my book, then 2021-2023 and ramping up of NIL in recruiting, and now starting in 2024 is almost really a whole new thing with revenue sharing and the new Big Ten. Not...

Thanks, appreciate it! Guess the spring was all-in on Lindsey, which isn't wrong.

    Fleck's Good Wins at Minnesota

USC last year certainly felt monumental at the time. Especially after the really sad Iowa game two weeks before. Then something clicked and changed at halftime vs Michigan. Almost could have had two top 15 (at the time) ranked wins in a row.
