Gophers target: Davidson transfer Michael Jones

We have 10 Scholarship Players: Cooper, Carrington, Battle, Ihnen, Henley, Fox, Thompson, Ola-Joseph, Gracia and Payne. We need a back up PG and a SG. It would be nice to have 2 SGs.

    FINAL Portal Status Grid

This is what Ryan James said on his 247 article: "Cooper listed a visit publicly for this upcoming weekend but he took that visit earlier in the week and committed to the Gophers yesterday." So I would say that's confirmed....

After the Cooper commit: Constructing the roster.

Defense is mostly effort. One thing that depth brings is the ability to demand effort for playing time. Last year's team played better defense than I ever saw in the Pitino era. I would imagine Johnson is not going to give playing time to anyone who doesn't play solid defense. We have so much...

    2022 Transfer Portal Discussion

I would think it's easier than recruiting from high school where you have 21,000 high school teams. You have a limited number of guys in the portal, they have fewer years remaining so mistakes don't impact you as much, they've already been in college so you know if they can handle the academics...

STrib: Imagine a Gophers hoops team with mostly Minnesota talent; Ben Johnson's close to making it happen

I live in a college town and help students with college choices. Tons of them do not want to our flagship school, University of Colorado, because they grew up here. They just want a change. Boulder is a great town, CU is a fun school....but the majority of the students with whom I work do not...

STrib: Imagine a Gophers hoops team with mostly Minnesota talent; Ben Johnson's close to making it happen

Having Minnesota kids in the program builds a fan base. If a guy from your high school is on the team, don't you cheer for him just a little bit louder? If a small town sends a guy to Minnesota, I can promise you that entire town will watch the games (and subsequently become fans). I agree...

Why are we 14th (last) in 2022 B1G recruiting?

It's because they rank them in a model that rewards the number of recruits. PJ gets a lot of recruits in June. Look at the average rating for now and compare that. Our recruiting has improved tons under Fleck and we are on track to do that again. I wouldn't worry until the end of July....

We had no depth. Our starters were fine until they got worn down and injuries started popping up, covid hit etc. It would have been a different team if we had more than one guy who could contribute off the bench.

We are #22 in population so if we are #17 in basketball players we do well for our size. And yes, with only one high major, we can do better but once again, we are in rebuilding mode.

To balance the classes, I doubt you'd want more than 4 recruits from most classes unless you can get a really good one. We were so unbalanced last year. Next year we'll probably be unbalanced again but not as much. I also think as Minnesota improves they'll be able to get better recruits. I...
