Most of what you said, I agree - i.e. leaving after a year or two. However, he's had 6-month of time to soul search playing for the Gophers. If he doesn't know by now, it is best for both parties to move on. He's a decent player; but not one worth pining about over the next few months.

Completely agree with this. Culture is very high on the list of "must haves" to make a successful team. If someone isn't happy or doesn't aspire to that culture; it's best for both that they find another team.
