TSN: College football predictions for 2023 bowl games (Transperfect Music City Bowl: Texas A&M vs. Minnesota)

I think I said it in a previous bowl projection thread, but I think a reasonable outcome this season is we go 7-5 or 8-4 against a tough schedule, and then after 8-4 Wisconsin, 8-4 Iowa, 7-5 Maryland, and 6-6 Nebraska all get slotted in better bowl games, we get placed in Detroit again to...

    Most memorable Gophers football win?

Absolute meltdown in the game thread after Nebraska blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown. So many people declared the game was over and they were shutting it off to go rake leaves or something. As apparently one of the only people who kept watching, I quite enjoyed the ending :)

    Nebraska Week 1 Simulation

Nebraska played Week 0 games the last couple of years, but we are their first opponent this season, and they are also ours.

Which current Power 5 head coaches are the best and worst vs. the Top 25? (The Worst: T(9) PJ Fleck – Minnesota – 20% (4-16))

The Fresno State team we beat in 2018 finished 11-2 and ranked in the top 25. Purdue in 2021 was also ranked for 2 non-consecutive weeks after their wins over then #2 Iowa and #3 Michigan State, but finished the season unranked.

    Kaliakmanis' Nick Name

This is what I've always heard him called, but maybe that's more of a Ryan Burns/Gopher Illustrated thing in particular.

Gophers 2024 and 2025 Big Ten opponents announced.

Could be that the school's desires aren't aligned with those of the fans, but I saw a number of Penn State fans at least somewhat disappointed that they don't get to play Ohio State every year now. It was the biggest game on their schedule most years.

Hickey: Minnesota is married to the Big Ten cellar until further notice.

Ben Johnson is 2-1 against Rutgers, they have no chance :)

Hickey: Minnesota is married to the Big Ten cellar until further notice.

The line about "top 2024 recruit Daniel Freitag has committed to Wisconsin" is misleading, as it seems the Gophers prioritized Asuma instead, and had stopped recruiting Freitag for several months before his commitment. Also as stated elsewhere, 2024 recruiting isn't going to affect the 2023-24...

UCLA and USC will each travel more than 15,000 miles roundtrip in conference play

UCLA has road games at Hawaii, Rutgers, LSU, Iowa, Indiana, and Michigan in 2024.

What do you think Ben Johnson did wrong in the recruitment of Dennis Evans, and what do you think Kenny Payne did right?

Gophers 2024 and 2025 Big Ten opponents announced.

Iowa is Nebraska’s only protected rival. Nebraska’s most sensible protected rival is probably either Iowa or Minnesota, and Minnesota and Iowa presumably wanted protected games against each other and Wisconsin, but I guess they decided to keep the border rivalry of Nebraska/Iowa and not...

RandBall: Minnesota sports fans were ruined by Lou Holtz and David Ortiz

I think you would have been in the minority in having a neutral/negative opinion of Pitino at that time. I remember debates on the board at the end of the 2012-13 season about whether we cheer for the Gophers to win in the NCAA tournament, or to lose as soon as possible to guarantee that Tubby...

RandBall: Minnesota sports fans were ruined by Lou Holtz and David Ortiz

People thought Richard Pitino was a rising star in 2014 after nearly making the NCAA Tournament in his first season and winning the NIT. He was the heir apparent at Louisville and was definitely going to leave before too long.

Greder: 1. Less experience. 2. Tougher schedule. Story: Those two factors contribute to Gophers football team facing headwinds of lower expectations

I agree with you, just trying to steelman the opposing argument. It's true that we don't often lose to bad teams.

Greder: 1. Less experience. 2. Tougher schedule. Story: Those two factors contribute to Gophers football team facing headwinds of lower expectations

Being charitable, maybe "laying eggs" is also referring to close games that we won, but should have won more easily? Of course Georgia Southern and South Dakota State in 2019 come to mind, and you could maybe argue both Fresno State games, although I don't think we were expected to blow them...

All Things 2024 Daniel Freitag Recruitment Thread (Gophers Have Offered)

Has it been known for awhile that he’s definitely playing basketball? I thought he was taking football visits as recently as the last 2-3 months, but from the image in the tweet I’m assuming it’s basketball.

3 must-win games for Nebraska Football in 2023 (Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa)

Nebraska can get to a bowl game by winning their non-conference games, beating Northwestern and Purdue at home, and then beating one Maryland, @Michigan State, and @Illinois. @Colorado being a must win makes some sense. Rivalry game, both teams have new coaches, Colorado likely digging...

The last year every Big Ten team beat Ohio State (Minnesota: 2000)

Purdue beat Ohio State in 1988, 2000, 2004, 2009, 2011, and 2018. Which means Purdue has beaten Ohio State 4 times since they last beat Wisconsin.

    Wyatt Gilmore Watch

Carter Coughlin announced a top 3 of Minnesota, Ohio State, and Oregon, after after Ohio State had recently beaten Oregon in the national championship game. Jonah Pirsig I believe also had a top 3 of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, but he's not from the Twin Cities. Blaise Andries had a ton of...
