Describe the loss to Penn St in 1 sentence

For the people asks what it means to play to win, Penn State had the ball late in the game with a lead, faced three fourth downs, and still didn't let us touch the ball the rest of the game.

Post Game Thread: Gophers lose heartbreaker to PSU

The punt team ran onto the fields during huddled with a different urgency than the other punts. Right as they broke the huddle, I turned to my friend in my ticket group and said "Penn State is about to try something." They did not disguise it well.

    2024-2025 Gopher Soccer

Huge win! Ties for the farthest we've ever gone! My favorite part of the win was, after getting the goal ahead goal, we kept pressing and didn't drop into one of those absurd shells to try and nurse a 1 goal lead for half an hour. I watch a fair amount of the Loons and USMNT, and I can't...

    Who 👃an Upset on Saturday?

I don't buy this. There are a lot of big money sports betters who spend their lives staring at different data sets. If there were an obvious inefficiency in the betting markets in favor of big brand teams, the big betters would hammer that bet until the effect was gone.

You want a "magic number" for Gophers to hear name called on Selection Sunday? Go with 22

So if we can go 2-0 in meat and potatoes, that puts us back on schedule?

    Indiana

I certainly think it's fair for any team to have the strength of their schedule considered as part of their evaluation. But it drives me up the wall how much talk Indiana's schedule gets when, if a helmet school in a major conference were 7-0 against that same schedule (especially with the same...

    Gophers - NIL & Dinkytown Athletes - $1million 👍🏻

It's almost as though there were things that could have been done all along to be successful at this, and not (as some fans seemed to think) that the U was somehow uniquely situated to have little ability to compete on this front.

    ROCK BOTTOM HAS BEEN ACHIEVED

I'm a little wary of assuming we have hit rock bottom. I thought we were there when Pitino gave us a 36% conference winning percentage with only two NCAA tourneys in 8 years (and four years of not even making the NIT, don't know what would have happened the year they cancelled postseason). Then...

Play “Your the Gopher AD”! What’s your move?

We brought a coach back for a fourth year with a 25.4% conference winning percentage. How bad could the season possibly go to force a move and make the AD think he isn't getting exactly what he signed up for?

***OFFICIAL NORTH TEXAS AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Let's take a deep breath. It's a tall order to expect any coach to be able to win games against blue blood powerhouses with huge NIL budgets like.....North Texas.

Post Game Thread: Gophers Lose Disappointing Game at Rutgers

North Carolina was already the game we dropped that we should win.

Shama: As of last week, the men’s program had sold 4,482 full season tickets including 242 to faculty and staff. That compared with 4,800 for 2023-24.

If this years out of conference gauntlet and last years dramatic post season run haven't increased season ticket sales, this just proves that there is nothing any coach could do to succeed here. Am I doing this right Pilgrim?

    First CFP Ranking Released Nov.5

I read an interesting article at one point discussing whether the point of the playoff field should be to capture the 12 best teams, or set a field designed the identify the best 1 team. I think that applies to undefeated champs of soft conferences. Are they better than the last at large team...

    First CFP Ranking Released Nov.5

Id support all conference champs being in. If one of them is really uncooperative, then a home game against that seed is a pretty nice consolation prize to the 5th seed who missed out on a bye by one spot.

I also like RPI. I think the hockey PWR is good. Agree with you on predictive measures. I think the model should bot be impacted by score differential or any in game stats, other than whether you won or lost, maybe home or away, and opponent.

    First CFP Ranking Released Nov.5

I always hated the argument that the smaller field (and even the two team BCS championship) made the games matter more. Florida State played 13 games that didn't matter last year.

    First CFP Ranking Released Nov.5

In my opinion, the "eye test" is antithetical to what's supposed to be good about sports. In pro football, it doesn't matter if people like the way you win, think you play the right way, or think that you got lucky and wouldn't win the same number of games if you played the season over. All...

Gophers 36th best team in the country per The Athletic.

Where feels most inequitable about the ranking inertia is when ranked teams beat other ranked teams who end up being bad. I feel like, if we had been ranked when we played USC, we would have gotten a big bump for beating a ranked team, and that bump would not have been adjusted back out of our...

Gophers 36th best team in the country per The Athletic.

I think our record results are consistent with a very middle of the pack big ten team. We are 4-2, but we lost our only game to a B1G team with a winning conference record, we are 1-1 against teams with an even conference record, and 3-0 against B1G teams with a losing conference record. Add in...
