Postgame Thread: Gophers Lose to North Carolina

I said this during the game. I've seen high school offenses with more advanced passing attacks than the Gophers. They don't need to be the "Air Raid" Wacker-years Gophers, but they don't even seem to have schemes to beat the coverages they see. Cover 0 and 1 Crossing and Rub Concepts - They...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT NORTH CAROLINA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

The Gopher passing game is the most basic scheme I’ve ever seen at the college level.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT NORTH CAROLINA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Pass rush basics. Ends must rush outside to contain. We even coach that in HS. Rush lane integrity.

    3-3-5 defense

Exactly the difficulty with this defense. It creates multiple levels that allows defenders to get open run thrus to the ball carriers. It is a very confusing defense for an offense but you better have three dudes up front that can eat up blockers and Nebraska looks to have those.

HS Football Update - sort of

This actually started last fall. Some families are what’s called direct certs from the state but by no means does that cover every family that actually meets the qualifications for ”educational benefits”. (Thats the new term for it). For instance, last fall, our school was able to direct cert...

HS Football Update - sort of

No chance of that. The only way anything remotely close to that happening would be based on "points". It would be a 2-year cycle. If you win a state title, you get x points. You make it to state final, you get x points. You win your section you get x points. You accumulate a certain number of...

HS Football Update - sort of

So you would be in favor of something like promotion and relegation like the soccer leagues in Europe? I believe that some states have a "success" factor that applies to their class placement. I don't know the specifics on any of that.

HS Football Update - sort of

Explain how we would be better served with 6. And to the point I made about those schools dropping down. It doesn't have anything to do with enrollments increasing compared to peers. Albert Lea dropped from 843 to 760 Cannon Falls dropped from 363 to 302 Red Wing dropped from 701 to 593...

HS Football Update - sort of

Seems as though quite a few schools are facing declining enrollments. Red Wing, Albert Lea, and Stewartville all dropped down to AAA from AAAA. Cannon Falls drops from AAA to AA. Goodhue drops back to A from AA. Thank goodness that they didn't place Cannon Falls in Section 1AA. Having Chatfield...

HS Football Update - sort of

Supposed to be a preliminary update out on 9-man through AAAAA districts next Friday. Those are a lot more difficult to do since they can't just use sections since there is no class that has full sections of 8 teams like AAAAAA does.

HS Football Update - sort of

A school can close open enrollment whenever they want. They just have to set the rule and follow it for everyone. The law states that if you want you can allow only up to 1% of your resident student body as open enrolled students. So if you have 100 kids in a grade, you could allow 1 student and...

HS Football Update - sort of

Teams won't get that rough idea until about mid-May according to the directives handed down by the MSHSL so far. It would be nice to get that information sooner as finding officials has been getting worse and worse. Many games are going to have to be played on Thursday and Saturday nights next...

All Things 2023 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

Oh, no short memory. Just looking forward from a cap perspective. Going into the off-season with their current contracts. The Vikings are $8 million over the cap for next year with only 41 players under contract for next year. I'm saying that they will need to make some major moves this...

All Things 2023 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

Yeah, his contract is definitely an albatross on this team. He is a good QB, no doubt, but with all of the guaranteed money that he was given, at some point the Vikings are going to have to bite the bullet and take the dead cap hit. Extending him just kicks the can down the road. The Vikings...

Here's a great website to see the cap numbers for the roster. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/cap/ Peterson - Free Agent - Only was a $3.5 million cap hit this past season. Kendricks - Will cost you $1.5 million in dead cap and save you $9.5 million. GUARANTEED CUT Smith - Cut...

All Things 2022 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

That is an impressive win. To bounce back after the way they played last week was huge. Lose today and maybe the bad things start snowballing. I don’t think they are good enough to make noise in the playoffs but they will be there. Still need Darrisaw back and another guard and probably 2 CBs...

I think O’Connell falls too in love with the pass. They mix it up nice on the first drive but then they fall into the trap of nothing but passing. They are the opposite of the Gophers!
