yeah exactly. so much of it is the product of your team around you and the role you get to play.

Buium had 13 points his first year at the NTDP. Lane Hutson averaged half a point a game his first year on a loaded NTDP team (that's the Snuggy, Gauthier, Stramel, Nazar, Cooley, McGroarty, Lucius, Howard, team). On the flip side, Chesley put up 34 points his first year and just never seemed to find his offensive game at the college level.

Defenders typically take longer as you allude to playing against USHL kids who are older/heavier. Not saying they're gamebreakers like those guys, but U17 NTDP years are notoriously hard to draw a ton from, but pretty clear they both got some heavy seasoning. Would I feel better had they lit it up? Yeah. Is it abandon ship or think they're not going to be anything time? Nah

But what is the probability they explode like Buium and Hutson? Extremely low

I don’t think anyone was expecting that, but could still turn into some great players. They were still higher touted recruits for a reason.
