The Portland Trail Blazers are hiring Minnesota Timberwolves lead assistant Micah Nori as the franchise's next head coach

There’s nothing about Nori that screams he’s a head coach to me. Likely why it’s only a 1 year deal.
Why do you say that? He's SO well respected, connects with the players, filled in for Finchy before successfully. He's known as a special talent. One of 30 now.

After seeing him interviewed many times over the years as an assistant, I just don't pick up on the strong leadership qualities that you need as a head coach. It's the same way I felt about Ben Johnson and Tracy Claeys, and still to some extent with Chris Finch. Some coaches are better off as assistants.

It's obvious Portland isn't sold on him either, putting him on a 1 year prove it deal. And that has been his only option to become a head coach so far at 52 years old.

That isn't what I've heard from anyone or witnessed, but we're all allowed to have different opinions.

Keep in mind, this isn't a regular job that you should be promoted to at 52 years old, there are 30 positions in the world, so an absolute huge accomplishment to ever get there.

I like Nori as an assistant and hope he is successful.

Usually successful head coaches want to be the head coach at an earlier age, even if they have to step back to lower levels or coach overseas to do so.

I think it's pretty rare for a 52 year old head coach to be successful after never being a head coach at any level previously. Especially one that never played college or pro basketball.
