If this were a HS recruited class it would be a top 15 class. These are high potential players who have not yet hit their peak- if they had...we couldn't afford them. No one foresaw Cade Tyson scoring 20 per game in the Big Ten after riding the bench at UNC.
Exactly- Spot on.

Yep....Niko is gambling with this transfer group and taking a swing at a massive return.

Biggest difference heading into 26-27 is that we have a solid core to build around so Niko probably felt like he could take a gamble on big upside knowing the floor was fairly secure with JCJ, Asuma, Durkin, Grove and Shinholster already in place and a player he has history with in Evans coming in.

It is a risk to be sure but after what he was able to do last year with a really short handed group I am wiling to give him the benefit of the doubt and see how it all turns out.

I think he saw that he maxed out last year with good mid major guys and knew he had to get higher potential guys to take the next step.

Not totally sure I agree with that because the max out last year was due to so many guys being injured which has nothing to do with where they came from.

I get the worries people like 60's have over the lack of proven track record on the guys coming in. In the end though all we can really do as fans is trust/hope that the people in charge are good evaluators of talent and know what they need in order to win.

Niko was able to build a consistent NCAA tournament team at CSU and he did a ton with a decimated roster here last year. I'm willing to believe that he sees something in the guys coming in and he feels they can take the program to the next level. Hopefully he is right.

We might be getting out over our skis if we think there is a Cade Tyson in this group... I'm not saying there isn't, just like you can't say there is. None of these guys had the production Cade had at Belmont before the UNC debacle.

My point isn't that there is one, but rather that the past records of these high D1 guys we got are not an indication they can't do it if given a chance. I don't think we will NEED a 20 point scorer this coming year. I think Tyson (who was terrific) will get replaced by the efficient play of a lot of guys each getting fewer minutes than Tyson did. I expect us to go 9 deep with the leading scorer being any of 6 or 7 guys on a given night.

The counter to your point is that for the guys who played at a higher level than the Belmont Stakes, what would they have accomplished at a lower level 🤔

No way of knowing, which is my point. It's very difficult to grade on what could've should've would've been. My point is that I'm not going to say this is an above average roster for the B1G because it has potential.

It’s meant to be a fun poll and a way to foster conversation during the slow summer months till we reach the fall; there are no grades being given for giving grades😃

Come on now … we all knew he was the MVC freshman of the year at 13.6 and then 16 plus as a sophomore at Belmont. He’d done it. Didn’t work at NC. Totally different.

Winters Grady is the wild card never done it in college but filled it up and was highly rated coming out of high school. He’s the guy with a chance to be Tyson.

We got candidates for sure but nobody proven. Yes we have Niko but minimum 12 teams are well ahead of us. Tough to get back to 8 wins on paper. Plus tougher schedule.

Yep, it can be argued both ways. I have confidence but no inside information. I like our chances in the coming year.

I went C. I am sure my view of rosters and lineups is outdated, but I feel like we need more proven length. Just not sure we have a tournament caliber frontcourt. I also think we have a number of similar players and will be limited in our ability to provide different looks.

Isn't that what it's been doing? Isn't every a comment either giving a grade or grading someone else's grade?

I was trying to assuage your apparent concern regarding your performance 🤷‍♂️

Agree. Maybe Niko can coach them up but just my opinion the talent level is not where it needs to be, especially up front.

It's hard to give a true evaluation at this time. No one predicted Tyson was going to do what he did a year ago. So someone will step up and fill his shoes. I believe Niko did a great job of filling our needs. We are not going to get the top players in the country to come to MN but we can get some really good players that fit Niko's system. I think the roster has a lot of potential. For year #2 and for what Niko did last year, everyone should be really excited for what is developing. I know I am. Go Gophers!

I'd argue that they really only need Evans and 2-3 of the transfers/freshmen to produce at a solid level for this team to be better than last year (assuming they are healthier).

That's not true. He did a little better than I thought he might but I figured he would be a starter and be able to score. I felt the same way as 60s Guy when he said "He'd done it" before.

I believe that if one is a proven collegiate scorer, he has a pretty fair potential of adjusting and doing that at a higher level if given the chance although the output may be a bit lower.

Tariq Francis showed the same thing at Rutgers last season. He averaged 19.2 points per game as a soph at a more lowly non-major program (NJIT - New Jersey Institute of Technology) than where Tyson started. Francis averaged 17 points per game as a junior at Rutgers last season (13th in the Big Ten).

As a starter, absolutely but to score like Tyson did in the Big 10? I'm not sure many predicted that he was going to have the success he did. That's all.

How much better? Knowing what I know about the returnees and not knowing much at all about the newcomers (because, frankly, there isn't much out there to know), I wouldn't be surprised by 17-14 or 18-13 but I'd be surprised by 21-10.
