All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

I am not as familiar with Nolan Groves. I know he kind of blew up late. For those that are...

Would rather have:

3 Years of Kai Shinholster or 3 Years of Nolan Groves?
He played early in place of Toppin while Toppin was out with injury. He really didn't play as year went on, but that may have been due to injury that sidelined him for some games.

I don't have anything against him either, would be fine with Kai staying, but he's just kinda meh for me
Really tough to know what we have in Shinholster. He showed some flashes but he was also a true freshman being forced to do more then he was probably ready to do based on all of our injuries.

He played hard and was good enough on the defensive end but he appeared reluctant on the offensive end and I think that lack of confidence contributed to what seemed like a decline in his shooting ability as the season wore on. When both he and Grove were in the game during the span of the 6-man roster, the offensive potential took a big hit.

That's the enigma. We assume the Gophers can't afford the no doubt Big Ten guys so they have to locate diamonds in the rough.

The hype was definitely there for Groves at the end of his recruitment. Now, who knows. I honestly don't know his game much. If he is a good shooter or if he can replace some of Reynolds game, granted with a smaller stature, than sign me up. Otherwise go for a bigger more athletic 2/3

Just asking but what is the evidence that Groves is a Big Ten contributor right now? Looks like small sample size from his freshman year.

If by "Big Ten contributor" you mean someone with the capability to be a rotation player, I think he's shown enough potential this season to be that. If you mean a starter, I think that's much more in doubt.

I may be biased a bit here because I knew nothing about him before this season and assumed there was a fair chance that he would be a stiff (maybe like Treyton Thompson without a 3-point shot). He surprised me by being a much better athlete than I thought he would be and has shown quick reflexes playing inside. Obviously, his outside shooting leaves a lot to be desired and his free throw shooting to date has been abysmal. Still, I like what I've seen enough that I want to see more.

Kai has quick hands and got lots of deflections....looks like he could be a very good defensive guard, but he had plenty of open looks from 3 late in the season and never looked close to knocking them down.

He definitely did show a fair amount of signs of being a good defender, especially at the top of the zone. Outside shot needs improvement, but seems to be a teachable player with potential. Showed a few signs of getting to the rim.

There's a good debate on here about the need for a "big" or at least someone bigger than our biggest guy, but Evans (or someone like him) could play a role on the defensive end. It's hard to see how someone like that would fit into Medved's offensive structure, but if you can get 5-10 minutes out of a guy to clog up the middle, knock some people around, and alter some shots, there's value in that. Add to it the value when you are up late and can shuttle in guys to solely play defense. I'm not advocating for Evans or the Providence guy per se, but having a playable "big" on the bench would be a plus.
Thats what we said about the practice guy from wash state or where ever he was

I'd take anyone of those Baylor dudes. The whole team very athletic Big quick and good. I'd even take any leftovers that might be in their neighborhood. Sign them up!

Anyone keeping stats on his executive order success rate?
As with all of them, it's a great idea. Will it get blocked? Probably. There is not much common sense left in the world.

You underestimate the allure of tumble weeds, dust storms and the smell of cow manure wafting over the campus from the ag buildings sir. My oldest attended that fine university and graduation day had us both weeping with joy, Hers were proud grad tears and mine exhilaration at never having to make that god awful drive again.
