Wow is this one gonna be tough. Incredible teams. Incredible players. The coaching was lacking to bring home AT LEAST one title that should have happened during the time. C. Maybe C- because of a historically bad year to end it.

B- given where we came from prior and lack of a title
Recency bias is going to skew the scores lower
Tourney in 5/7* years (one covid year we also probably miss) and 7-5 in the postseason which is pretty solid.
But brought fans back into the stands playing Gopher hockey.

I have to go with something like this. Lower than a B because of Q and this year, but higher than a C because he did bring excitement, expectations and fans back.

I voted C, but this is kind of where I sat.

I'd say B. Rebuilt the program after it fell off during Lucia's final years. Reinvigorated the fanbase in doing so. Then the rest of his resume:
  • 5 NCAA Tournaments
  • 2 Frozen Fours
  • 2 Conference Titles
  • 1 Conference Tournament Title
That's not bad for a seven year stretch. It’s notable that he did so in what’s been an improving Big Ten: Michigan making the Frozen Four in 2022-2024, Michigan State’s current run under Nightingale, Mike Hastings improving Wisconsin, both Penn State and Ohio State having some strong years.

Would certainly be an A if he won the title in 2023. The narrative would be a lot different if that had been the case, but unfortunately, we know how that turned out. There's also the sense that the program wasn't quite moving in a better direction since then, too, so with that in mind, B is about right.

Went with a B. Won't give an A to a tenure that doesn't win a national championship at the U for hockey. Seems like he did everything but that. Multiple frozen fours, conference championships, and a conference tourney title. Very good run that fell short of the mountain top.

B+. Overall he fielded very solid teams. Class act. I am sad to see him go but I do think it was time. An off year combined with the knowledge that retirement was just around the corner make this the right move in my mind. Hopefully the new coach can retain the strong class Bob had coming in.

C. He failed at St. Cloud State and he pretty much did here. The bar should be set much higher.
