The Gopher Women's Hockey team is set to have a great year. They are 7-1 and ranked #3. They just split with the #2 team in the country. Their win over Ohio State was a great game and they kept the pressure on from start to finish. They play #4 ranked UMD this coming weekend. Let's share our thoughts about games this season. Go Gophers!

DULUTH, MINN. – The No. 3-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned a statement victory on Friday night, shutting out No. 4/5 Minnesota Duluth, 4-0, at AMSOIL Arena. The Gophers erupted for three goals in the second period and added one more in the third to secure their third shutout win of the 2025-26 season.
The teams skated through a scoreless opening frame, with the Gophers holding a 13–7 advantage in shots on goal. Madison Kaiser, Nelli Laitinen, and Sydney Morrow each recorded a pair of shots to pace the Gopher offense early.

Big win over the 4th ranked team on UMD's home ice. Duluth did not have much of a home crowd advantage because many hockey fans were in the Twin Cities for the men's hockey game.

Best of luck tomorrow Gophers (3:00 pm BIG+)!

Gophers Complete Series Sweep of Bulldogs

DULUTH, MINN. – The No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team completed a series sweep of No. 4/5 Minnesota Duluth with a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena. Senior forward Abbey Murphy recorded her fifth multi-goal game of the season, including the game-winning tally midway through the third period. With her performance, Murphy moved into sole possession of second place on Minnesota's all-time goals list, passing Gopher legend Hannah Brandt.
For the second straight game, the Gophers and Bulldogs skated to a scoreless opening period. Shots were even at 10-10 through 20 minutes, with Josefin Bouveng and Murphy each registering a pair.

Quotable
"A great win overall, it's a tough place to play," said Head Coach Brad Frost. "I'm really proud of our team for finding a way there, really bearing down in the third to keep that one goal lead, and ultimately win the game."

Frost on Murphy's Milestone
"It's a lot of goals," Head coach Brad Frost said. "She's one of, if not the, best goal scorers we've ever had here at the University of Minnesota. For her to do it how she's done it has been really impressive. This year I've seen her game take off and better than it ever has been. We're just really proud of her and all the energy she brings to our team. The goals are always something pretty special."

Third ranked Gophers beat #1 Wisconsin in Madison 5-1. Outstanding game. I think the announcers said the Gophers scored 5 goals in about 11 minutes. They tied the game 1-1 near the end of the second period and scored 4 goals in the first half of the third period. Go Gophers, beat the Badgers in the next game.

Wisconsin turned the tables on Minnesota (7-2). They scored their first goal 14 seconds into the game and a second goal about two minutes later. The Gophers were swarmed most of the game and couldn't dig out of the hole. Hannah Clark, who has been outstanding this season, was bombed. Get ready for the next game Gophers. There is a lot of games ahead.

Gophers Rise to No. 2 in Latest USCHO Poll

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey team climbed to No. 2 in this week's USCHO.com national poll, released Monday, Nov. 3. The Gophers had previously held the No. 3 spot for the first six weeks of the 2025-26 campaign. Minnesota received 270 points in the latest rankings, edging past Ohio State (269 points) for the second position.

The Gophers are having an outstanding season and should be in the mix for a national championship. They deserve the support of Gopherville. Go Gophers.

I guess it was opposite day for the hockey programs, 2nd ranked Gophers loses to an average MSU-Mankato team while the bottom feeder men's team beats a ranked Penn State squad.

Holy Moly Batman, Minnesota State swept the Gopher Women's hockey team. Saturday was a bad day for Gopher fans: Women's and Men's hockey, Men's basketball, and football teams lose. Sometimes, I think that they should not let the women athletes drink the same water, or whatever, as the men.

Uggh...Ladies lose 4-2 to Northeastern to end the season. They are the only B1G team to lose. Congrats to Northeastern.

This program is in a free fall. This once dominant program is so far behind Ohio State and Wisconsin it is embarrassing. It was a nice ride.

Press release by U of MN:
University of Minnesota Thomas O. Moe Director of Athletics Mark Coyle has announced that the University has parted ways with women's hockey coach Brad Frost.

Statement from Mark Coyle

"Brad is a great coach and an even better person, which is why today is extremely difficult. This decision was made after a review of the program on and off the ice. We expect to contend at the highest level in every aspect of women’s college hockey, and right now we are not doing that.

“I want to thank Brad for leading our team with class and integrity for 19 years. He has coached some of the best players to ever wear the Maroon and Gold, won numerous WCHA titles and national championships in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. We are grateful for his service and wish Brad all the best in his future endeavors.

“While change like this is never easy, now is the right time for a new voice to lead our program. This is the best coaching job in women’s hockey, and we will immediately begin a nationwide search for our next head coach.”

A lot of the Minnesota talent have not been staying home recently. When the Pohls don't seem to want anything to do with the U, you wonder what is going on behind the scene.

This sentence makes me think there was more than just W-L.

Emily Pohl just wanted to get out of state and make her own way, according to interviews. So I'm not sure that was a Frost problem. Just one of those kids that wants to go further away from home.

Hire Nadine Muzerall the Ohio State coach, she is an alumn and knows what this program can be.
Why is it that whenever there is a position open in athletics at Minnesota, people clamor for an alumni? Minnesota needs new blood, ideas, and ways of doing things. You don't have to be an alumni to be loyal to a school or program and to give it your absolute best effort.

Normally I agree, but she's had Ohio State in the last 4 National Title games, winning 2 championships.

This isn't a Lindsay Whalen situation, this is the 2nd most decorated coach of the last decade.

That may be. But with both parents from MN and going to the U, the last place she should be thinking is Wisc. She could have gone anywhere.

True. But now with all that tax-payer funding of NIL... j/k.

Because the people in this state are the most provincial idiots on the planet. It's the Sid effect.
