90s music

The 1996 album 'The Golden Age' by Cracker was not nearly as good as 'Kerosene Hat'.....but may include my favorite song of theirs:

I've now heard Cracker multiple times on the reborn version of KQ92.

This Jay Farrar effort was on the second Uncle Tupelo album. Lyrically it still is my favorite slower song he's ever written.

Still Be Around

One of the best (and most underrated) bands of all time, imo. One from each of the 90s albums.

I was really hoping for this Whiskeytown tune at the Ryan Adams show a few weeks ago at The Uptown. No get.

Avenues

I remember finding it boring for the most part. Do you think anyone would respond to a 90s ska thread?
I drop the OC Supertones for my block on Halloween. Kids and parents love it. We generally give out 120 pieces of candy on October 31st. The Supertones have aged well.

Cracker--especially Kerosene Hat--is a great go-to. That album is downright great. As well loved as it is, I actually think it's underrated.

'Low' was obviously the hit off the album. But......Nostalgia, Get Off This, Movie Star, I Ride My Bike, I Want Everything, and the title track.....Kerosene Hat.....are all great tunes too. Very underappreciated album.

This'll sound corny, but this song will be in the first reel of the Route 66 documentary film I hope to make before I die.

If this were the opening song to a Route 66 Documentary that I accidently stumbled over.....or auto started because streaming service be going crazy.....I'd watch it.

If Mark Goffeney were still alive, he'd live-perform the last song in the film before the credits. My family and I happened to catch him at the Santa Monica Pier when we drove Highway 66 in 2011. I have him on video performing Ball and Chain by Social Distortion. When he saw me singing along, he gave me a smile.

Birthday Wishes to Mike Mills!

R.E.M. - Near Wild Heaven

Current member of The Baseball Project turns 66 today.
Happy Birthday again to Mike Mills who I was fortunate enough to see twice this past year after not seeing him perform live since 1989. He came to town in July with The Big Star Quintet at 1st Ave. He returned in September at The Fine Line with The Minus 5 & The Baseball Project.

While finishing college at the time the Grunge era lit up, I was all in on Pearl Jam. Their 3rd album (Vitalogy) became instantly my favorite when released.

While I never grew tired of those first 3 albums, I devolved from being a fan of the genre/band following No Code in 1996. When Yield was put into the world, what I heard (which was probably minimal, being all in on Alt-Country at that point) it did not move me to purchase it.

I did not buy it until 2006 when they came to town as a co-headliner with Tom Petty. Still not moved.

After watching PJ 20 and subsequently when I found Pearl Jam on Sirius XM circa 2012, I realized I missed out on Yield and lots of other stuff.

In 2014 listening to the back catalog as they were coming back to St Paul for Lightning Bolt, Yield struck me as a really a perfect album. Track for track. Their very next show in Milwaukee they wound up playing it start to finish. It's my favorite official bootleg, for shows I was not actually in attendance.

Happy Anniversary to Yield, released February 3, 1998. Better late than never.

Here's Low Light from Wrigley Field in 2016, written by bass player Jeff Ament. I am grateful I was there.

Yield is also a pretty freaking cool album cover, IMO., especially in vinyl.

Had the cardboard, digipak style, gatefold CD case as well. Not sure if all releases were this way, but the version I own is. 'Binaural' also had a case like this. Can't remember if 'Vitalogy' was this way or if that one was just a slip cover. Either way.....much more durable than the flimsy digipak cases used today....which I really detest.

My Yield (CD) is not the original package. Starting with Backspacer, I have all the higher quality digipaks (including PJ20 & Let's Play Two).
