All Things Baboucarr Ann Recruitment Thread (Class of 2027, Maple Grove, Gophers Offered)

Ann's numbers would be impressive as a Sr, but he is just a JR. Lots of players make another jump as a SR. He could vault up the top 100 boards with these numbers. Close the deal Niko.

Yes we need to close the deal, have a good feeling about his potential. Not ideal to see Iowa State in the mix

The Wayzata vs Maple Grove game was a fun one to watch. #5 Maple Grove stood out among several other good players on the floor. Be great if we could get him...he's the kind of Big Ten athlete we don't have.
I think we have #3 from Wayzata? We might as well get #2 also....another athlete.

I believe it will come down to Iowa State, Wisconsin, and Us. Wisconsin has former Maple Grover and nut kicker Brad Davison on the staff. Hope we can pull it off, he would be a huge get!

#2 Christian Wiggins is going to Iowa St. He was more highly rated than our recruit Nolen Anderson until very recently. Anderson is #101 on 247 composite, an average score from multiple sites, Wiggins is now #130.

For those not up on local recruiting, Mn has not gotten any of the top 3 players in the state in quite a while, I would imagine.
Last year 1 and 2 went N. Dame and Clemson.
2024 they went to Creighton, Wisc, and Miami. Asuma was rated 5th and #190 nationally.
'23 they chose Ohio st. and Wisconsin.
'22 Was one of the biggest high div 1 classes: Tre Holloman went to Mich St., Jefferson to Tennessee, Prince Aligbe to BC, Heide to Purdue, Watson and Eli King to Iowa St., then Payne and Carrington to Minn, as the 7th and 8th rated recruits. So just because Carrington was Mr. Basketball doesn't mean he was considered as a better recruit than others. Payne was under-rated, and some of those above, never produced.

2020 Could be considered the deepest field with.
Suggs #11 in the country to the Zags. Garcia at #37 to Marquette.
Dainja at #91 to Baylor. B Carlson at #107 to Wisc, Crowl also.
K Walton at #129 to UNC. G Madsen at #210, and brother Mason to Cinn.
***The gophers didn't get any?

My point is the top local talent in Minnesota haven't gone to Minnesota since Oturu in '18. Hopefully next year, and in the years to come, the gophers will have a consistent winner, consistent ncaa visits, and an ocassional tourney run. Only then, will those top Minnesotans want to stay home. '2027 in addition to Ann of Maple Grove, at #98 and rising, Ahmed Nur of Hopkins is at #42 Nationally. Go gophers! We can get other recruits, but it is embarrassing to have good local talent go to Wisconsin and Iowa St.

Cool story, but it’s not going to happen.

Do the same analysis for iowa or wisconsin and you’ll find similar results. Especially in basketball, most of the talent leaves the state and does not attend the flagship university.

I’ve done it several times here. Even broaden your search and look at states that produce more talent than we do, like Ohio or Virginia. I specifically looked at Virginia in the years following their 2019 NCAA championship figuring that a lot of Virginian kids would want to go there. Nope. Almost 100% of the rated kids for the next several years left the state.

We can just hope for better players and not care where they grew up, but rather celebrate that they choose Minnesota.

McDonalds all Americans go blue blood 90% of the time. Other than those.
Iowa:
'20 #1 player X Foster, Iowa st. '21 #1 went to Marq. #2 Drake, #3 Iowa.
22' #1 Dix, Iowa. '23 #1 went to Iowa St., #2 Sandfort Iowa.
'24 no ranked players. '25 #1 Jirak, Iowa.

Wisconsin:
'20 #1 J Johnson mcdonalds all am to Duke, 2 to Maryland, 3 J. Davis Wisc.
'21 #1 Baldwin, another Mcd. all american chose Milwaukee, 2 went to Iowa St.
'22 #1 Trimbe to N Car, 1 went Virg, 3 went Miami
'23 #1 to Iowa st. '24 Kon, McD all amer to Duke, 2 to Nebraska.
'25 #1 and #2 went to Iowa St. '26 #1 To Wisconsin.

The vast majority of Iowa's players chose Iowa and Iowa St. Wisconsin's top players do not choose Wisconsin, but the roster is full of lesser rated Wisconsin players. Neither gets top 50 players from out of state. They both recruit a type. I don't care what happens in Virginia, the midwest is different. Niko will turn this around and those non-Mcdonald's all americans that MN produces will hopefully give the U more of a chance than our neighbor next door.
