All Things Baboucarr Ann Recruitment Thread (Class of 2027, Maple Grove, Gophers Offered)

Per Marcus:

Cretin-Derham Hall’s Ty Schlagel and Maple Grove’s Baboucarr Ann, the only two sophomores offered by Johnson, have more time to figure out what might be in their future at the next level, including being recruited by Medved’s Gophers.

The 6-5 Ann, who will play up with D1 Minnesota’s 17U team this year, was impressed with Medved’s accomplishments in turning around programs at Furman, Drake and recently Colorado State, which went to back-to-back NCAA tournaments.

“I feel like my interest in the school is the same because Minnesota is one of my favorite schools,” Ann said. “But having him as a coach would be a plus.”

And this right here is the difference maker between hiring a coach with a track record of success and one who doesn't. It gives recruits and fans the confidence that he's done it before and he'll do it again here.

All things that Coyle, etc knew. Yet…….

Anyone seen him in person?

Yep. He’s the real deal. He has gotten so good. High D1 athleticism, length, size, etc. And I believe his ceiling is the NBA. If he can consistently knock down open 3’s at a higher percentage, he’ll have pro potential. We were in on him very early (both last staff and this staff), I anticipate his offer list will significantly grow this offseason. This is the type of recruit Medved needs to find a way to keep home.

Ben’s second choice was the U …. Tough to make a U salesman out of that makeup. Sales ain’t easy.

Ann seems to be a long 6-5/6-6 190 already as a Jr.. He has potential as a strong two- way player. Could be 210+ by his jr and sr yr of college. Like Femke on the defensive end as a SF. With maybe some Grier to his game on the offensive end.

Nice game by Ann, being guarded by Iowa St. commit Wiggins. Some very tough drives, many turn around shots, and hits at least 1 three, scoring 21, with 7 reb. in the slight upset of Wayzata.

I watched this game online, Ann was fantastic and hit a dagger over Wiggins to put the game away. It was a fantastic game with quite a few D1 players.

Really really hope Medved can get Ann.

And how about the 7 footer to go along with him?

He's raw, but certainly has potential. He moves well for his size, but needs to add a lot of strength as do most guys his size and age. But you can't teach 7-feet.

Max Iverson (son of former Gopher LB Ryan who transferred to play basketball at Delaware) is fantastic, but just undersized for BT. He's headed to NDSU next year. I predict he'll fill buckets there and work his way up the ladder via the Portal.

Go Gophers!!
