It's time for a change.

Or "what if they hire another Smokey Joe Salem?"
Burned by Holtz
Gutey ran his course as an interim turned HC hire
Wacker was worse that Brewster, but had resume of championship football at D2 level.
Mason good solid 10 year run
Brewster was terrible hire from day one looking back and position coaches are rarely considered anymore.
Kill was a solid hire that had health derail him
Claeys wasn't a long-term plan with new AD
Fleck was Home Run hire from MAC and has had a really solid run considering the past.

Here is what Baylor is hiring as AD today.

McNamee returns to Baylor after successful stints as President of Waco-based Magnolia, the nationally recognized lifestyle and media company founded by Baylor alums Chip and Joanna Gaines, and most recently as President of the re-imagined Field & Stream with country music superstars Eric Church and Morgan Wallen as investors. A two-time Baylor graduate, McNamee spent nearly a decade at his alma mater, rising to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs before departing in 2018 for the corporate sector.

"Doug's familiarity with Baylor and his recent experience as the chief executive of two national lifestyle and media companies will serve him well as we prioritize increasing revenues, expanding external NIL opportunities for our student-athletes and growing our brand in this new era of college athletics while also engaging our passionate fanbase," said President Livingstone, who previously served as chair of the NCAA Board of Governors and of the Big 12 Board of Directors. "Doug is incredibly authentic and engaging, and he will connect with the entire Baylor Family, from our high-level donors to our Bear Foundation members and the Waco community. He fully embraces Baylor's distinct Christian mission, and I look forward to working with him as he guides our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans into the future."

It will be interesting to see where the portal push is on the offense. I think it's going to be more athletic TE's and the ability to use one as a 3rd WR, and better WR's.

Roy, Johnson, Beers, Nelson and New RT is my expectation. Possibly move Roy to RT if you find a better LT option.
I think Walsh could be that guy next year. Voss and a couple other young guys could eventually as well, potentially.

They offered the kid from UMD, so they are definitely looking for TE help in the portal.
I’m guessing they’re looking for some experience there more than anything, but that kid put up big numbers it sounds like.

So whats an unacceptable record in your book for 2026? One that will deserve a firing.
To me, the really poor showing on the field this year (not in the win/loss column) was disappointing primarily because there was zero reason the team that curb stomped Nebraska couldn't have played more competitively for 60 minutes against Michigan State and Purdue. Nebraska, for all their flaws was better than both of those teams.

Throw in the play not to lose against Cal and losing, and failing to get off the bus against Iowa and I get the we need to make a change. But like Fleck's failure to change his best, pulling in a new coach without addressing fundamental issues with the athletic department, is insanity.

Fleck's seat isn't warm. It's seems unlikely that we'll end up playing 4 of the five worst teams in the B1G based on the schedule, so I expect without a major improvement on the O-line and DT's health, we could be better next year and still have a lessor record.

He's not going anywhere unless he has a massive breakout season and wins the B1G, a major off field scandal is uncovered, Coyle leaves and the new AD wants to hire his "guy", runs three or four bad seasons in a row, or he retires.

Personally I think we could do better, but if we'd hired someone like Cignetti, he's be gone after next year for greener pastures (he not as stupid as Kiffen) without a fundamental change in the mindset of the leadership at the U.

So set minimums if you want, it doesn't matter. Fleck's our Coach and will be for the foreseeable future.

I think we're seeing the culmination of coaching attrition hit a breaking point for Fleck. Eventually you just can't keep replacing talented coaches and coordinators and expect to keep winning (unless you're UGA, OSU, etc) The original Fleck coaching tree is dying and we aren't willing to pay competitive salaries to fill that void. The reality is that in CFB, you're only as good as your staff, as head coaches are basically CEO's and the staffs are the ones scheming and developing the players. Indiana knows what they have with Cignetti and his staff and they've opened up the checkbook accordingly

Look at Roy’s stats as a RS FR. He’s developing faster than Ersery. No way, after another year of maturation for Roy, we’re going to find a better LT than him. He’s the new keystone of the OL. It is going to be tough enough to find a competent RT.

We currently have, among returning TEs, 2 catches in the 2025 season. If Dehnicke transfers to the Gophs from UMD, he is the instant No. 1 TE.

Dehnicke was listed as 6'3" 205 lbs. He might need some strength and conditioning to get up to BG10 TE levels. Regardless, leading the NSIC in receiving yards as a TE is impressive. I'm guessing he didn't do much blocking.

Current status of Dehnicke below. Big Ten ready now.

There seems to be a lot of talent at TE, but it is young/inexperienced. I think Pierce Walsh will surprise.

TE will be interesting to watch over the spring and fall camp because no matter what there are going to be a bunch of new faces at that position next year with the guys we have graduating.

Would seem like a prime spot to bring in an experienced guy and there are a lot of guys on the roster that were highly regarded as recruits and then it is a matter of how quickly Voss can adjust to the new position because you know the staff will want to get him on the field as soon as possible if he shows he is ready.

I had the pleasure of taking in a few Bulldog games this season as a future family member played. Dehnicke really stood out each game, great hands and yards after catch were very impressive. I’d like to see what he can do in the big league

Interesting that he posted his first handful of offers and then went silent on his twitter. No offers posted since December 5th for the 1st Team All-American.

Agree, he would be coming into a good situation for playing time and his dad apparently played for the Gophers! I thought he would have snapped up our offer.

I don't think he can take any offer until the transfer portal officially opens on January 2, 2026.

This reads like “business man will save us if we put him in a non business man job”… those always seem to fail.

Also reads like a bit of nepotism with his history working for Baylor boosters privately….

A couple of the TE on the bench were highly-ranked, and are B1G-sized and very athletic. One has seen a lot of participation on special teams, I believe. Just haven't seen the field because of Seniors Geers-Biber-Bierman this past year. If Dehnicke moves to the U, some of the team's depth athletic talent blossoms, and Voss is there learning and conditioning, Drake (and his successor) should have a great group of athletic TEs to throw to for the next several years.

Which ones are those?

It's all about name recognition... 🤡
