Vikings signed QB John Wolford off their practice squad.

Wolford’s signing likely means that he’ll be the backup quarterback for JJ McCarthy for Week 14 against the Commanders, with Max Brosmer the emergency third quarterback.

If Wentz had not needed season ending surgery and had been healthy again, Brosmer would never have played this year. Oh well
 

The interesting thing to think about is:

- if somehow in 2023 the Vikings had lost more games such that they moved up in the draft order close enough that KAM and the Vikings executive leadership would've been more willing to do a trade for what it would've taken to move into #1 to take Drake Maye ....

would New England still have turned it down?


The lazy answer is to immediately say No with little thought. That might still also be the correct answer. We'll never know.



But the fact of the matter is that we should have tried to get Maye. That was the correct decision in the 24 draft and that is the QB that KOC actually wanted.

They did try to move up to take Maye. The price was too steep and NE didn't want to move because they also really liked Maye.
 


The "Clowns for Caleb Downs" 2026 Draft campaign continues today. WAS and MIN battling for a better pick in April. I actually expect the Vikings to win today. I think WAS is crazy to rush Daniels back like this in a lost season.

This was understood, and I thought my post already was careful to explain the hypothetical that extends beyond what actually did happen.

The interesting question is to think about if there was a price New England would have accepted to trade out of the top pick, or if there was no price.

And to make it more interesting, if we had lost more games in 2023 such that the distance from the pick we had to offer would not have been so great. Not a top 3 QB for sure, but possible a top pick for another position or still the #4 QB.

We know exactly what is going to happen the rest of the year.

It will be Air Mac as KOC tries to figure out what kind (not if) of QB we bring in to compete next year.

They'll win more games than we think.


Will be interesting to see how many spots they slide because of the last win they get this year.

I'm not sure why it's still interesting to you because it didn't happen and it doesn't matter anymore.

Because it is definitely is interesting to think about the things that should have happened, in hindsight, and what it might have taken to make them happen.

People do that all the time.

I think it's more fun than dwelling on the mistakes that have been made.

Nothing has been proven with McCarthy yet. If he's a bust it's bad for all fans.

Predictions​

Lewis: Commanders 23, Vikings 19. I still cannot do it. Washington’s defense ranks 3oth in explosive play rate allowed, but I do think their front can cause problems. My perspective on the Vikings’ situation is simple. Until they prove they can get competent quarterback play, it’s going to be too difficult for me to pick them.

Krawczynski: Vikings 18, Commanders 17. I’m sure I’m going to be wrong here, but Washington has lost seven in a row. That skid includes blowout losses to the Chiefs, Lions, Seahawks and Cowboys. Both of these teams are really bad. If the Vikings are going to win one game the rest of the season, I think they do it here on the leg of Will the Thrill. If it goes as poorly as it has gone for the last month, heaven help everyone over there.
