I believe @Word was referring to give it a year at the helmet school and then transfer down, kinda like all the tOSU quarterbacks except the one who starts.

I mean it sucks but tough to be shocked by a Texas kid jumping at an offer from Texas. Unfortunately not going to win many head to head battles in recruiting with Texas.

He landed at the SEC school 30 minutes from his house. Unfortunately, the way it works is you have to commit to your best offer and if a better offer comes along you switch.
That's not the way it has to work, it's the way it worked for this kid, who was obviously out shopping for better offers from day one. Many, many athletes make commitments and stick to them, because they've made their initial decision for the right reasons (i.e. academics, coaching relationships, etc.) and can't be swayed. If you've "committed" to 3 schools in a 3 week span, odds are probably good you'll be in the portal and on the move at some point.
Unfortunately schools give pressure and deadlines to commit. Also we are two weeks from signing day, so I'm sure he was under a ton of pressure to get committed to a spot.
I understand those dynamics, but if he's talented enough to play at Texas and in the SEC (who knows, he may flip again for Alabama!), coaches always give that level of talent more time to make their decision. When a "commitment" bails for another school, especially this close to national signing day, it screws the school they "committed" to, forcing them to find another player to fill that spot when another player of that caliber may not be available. It's a bad look. I'd never let my kid jump around like that if he had this opportunity. Take in all the information, make a thoughtful and informed decision, then stick with it.
Some of these guys are very lightly recruited until their senior year film gets out. They blow up from there in a matter of 5 week's time. Yes it screws the school, but Fleck knows these possibilities and have plans in place to fix them. Heck Fleck likely knew if Texas called, he was gone.
I didn’t post it, but I watched an interview with him a few days ago after they got bounced from the playoffs and he ended it saying he can’t wait to get to Minnesota.
In a perfect world these teenagers would make their commitments and stick to them (many of them do) but it is all just part of the wild world of recruiting.
Pretty sure we would have liked to keep him, but it's not as if we lost someone who'd been a core part of the class for months vs. having a cup of coffee for about 3 weeks.
As another poster mentioned, I'd rather have a recruit flip than transfer after wasting our NIL and development efforts.

I think this is the problem with expanding the roster to 105. I understand why they did it, but now Texas and all the schools above us get 20 extra kids per year that are better than the old walk on that would normally be taking up that spot.
This is the way it works nowadays. You can't blame the kid for jumping on the Texas offer. We can't compete with Texas. You take the best job offer you can get. Who knows after two years on the bench we may get him for his last three years.
I always love the “honor your commitment” crowd. Dont take the better money or what you feel is the better opportunity? We never expect coaches to be held to the same standard, why would we expect 17 year old kids to be held to it.
