I want this for Minnesota football

I don't really listen to anything PJ says for a lot of reasons, but he was very unPJ like in the fact that he wasn't downplaying expectations and actually saying the skies the limit instead of holding up his pencil drawn cart (of excuses).

I don't think this season was/is a rebuild for a lot of reasons, but it has been a season of questions.

We had questions at QB, Oline and the secondary (and new DC).

We figured out 1 (QB) of the three so far. Drake isn't perfect but he obviously is a different level of QB at Minnesota. I love his play and upside.

My guess was 6-6/7-6 both of which are still in play (not including the bye week victories - I haven't heard and was away from media most of the weekend, did we win this bye week? I guess I'll just have to wait for tomorrow's presser to figure it out.)

In line with the changes we were going through but far from a rebuild.

In the transfer portal era, rebuilds will happen but are not the same thing as the reality some programs faced 10 years ago.
I agree I wouldn't call this season a rebuild. I also wouldn't say we had the group to have another. 2019 either. I thought 8-4 at the start, losses to OSU, Iowa and Oregon and one other one (Cal as it turns out) Can still achieve that goal, no guarantees but beating NW and Wisconsin is more than doable. I'd feel pretty good about our chances if the punter leads the team in passing yards again lol.
I would say coming into the year my biggest concerns were cornerback, oline and linebacker play. We seem to be playing more man this year, probably due to in experience at the corner spots. We have 3/5ths of an oline with the right side being a turn style. I think Williams and Maverick have mostly done a good job at linebacker, with Kingsberry being a please t surprise while Robertson the transfer has mostly disappointed. WR play been okay, l like Smith and Tracy and it's been nice to see Brockington stay healthy, but we just don't have any elite talent there. Average players having average years. Perhaps Smith and maybe Martino and Coleman can get there as they get older. Anyways go 8-4, 6-3 in the league, hopefully win the bowl game (would love to play either LSU or Vandy) it's a good not great year but with some of our warts it's tough to complain about it. Could very well have a better team next year and finish with a worse record

How much are you contributing?
I know you aren’t
The inexplicable bad loss thing is so overblown. Give Cig 9 years and I’m sure he’ll lose to some P4 teams that he’s “supposed” to beat too. Other than the Bowling Green game I’m not seeing those so called inexplicable bad losses every year.
I don’t hate on PJ - I am a fan of his work at the U overall, but it is not overblown in my mind. Multiple seasons in which we needed one more win and should have had it.

Language matters. Just because we needed one more win doesn’t make the losses inexplicable. Disappointing sure, but use the proper adjectives.

I think it’s wild people call 2022 vs Illinois and Purdue inexplicable

Missing best player post warmups the gophers lost to a pretty similar Purdue team

Illinois was the most talented team in the division that year, IMO.

2021 they lost to Illinois which was the most “inexplicable” of the four in this post. Fleck was stupidly over aggressive going for it early in the game and spotted Illinois points. Offense never got their stuff together.
That Illinois team was strange: beat Minnesota and Penn state.
Lost to UTSA

But the game you needed was a toss up game in Iowa city that ended up being a one score game.

I wish they had won all 4 + bowling green. For the record

2022 what made me mad about Purdue I believe Mo could have and should have played we had a bye week afterwards and I think much like punting vs Wisconsin Fleck would make a different decision there if he could go back. Agreed on 2022 Illinois, they were a good team playing their best ball at that point, sucked we weren't better coming out of the bye. Iowa ugh the one time Mo fumbles.
2021 Bowling Green and Illinois were two very poorly coached games, I'll leave it at that, still had a good but should have been great season.
Rutgers last year and Cal this year it's tough to understand why we weren't more aggressive on defense Cal I can at least see the point of view where that's the game we learned what we really had on that side of the ball made adjustments to play more man and as a result have been able to get more TFL and sacks, but not turnovers. However last year at Rutgers we knew what we were and what we were going up against, did Heatherman get in his own head and over think it?

How do you know I'm not? Just curious.

Are you a DA member???

If the gophers played Penn state next week what would the line be?

Minnesota -3?
Likely. But also, we’d likely lose cus the Gophs rarely beat helmet schools. Even in their worst years. It’s like we see the helmet n say ‘Ope can’t beat them’

You can say that about any team any year - just needed one more win IMO

Hey, you probably won't believe me when I say this, but I truly got cut off mid stream and never finished the thought I intended towards you. Guh - I don't even remember what I was saying, but I think my ADHD brain moved on to a different comment and never finished my thought towards you. I honestly can't remember what I was looking to say. Sorry about that man.

LOL - what is this comment?! Of course no loss is inexplicable - there is always an objective explanation for losses. Of course, in my estimation, the reason for most of these losses is improper game plan or lack of 2nd half adjustments. Of course, player execution (that drop in the end zone against purdue) is a factor as well.

Also, I didn't use an adjective in my post - so how would your feedback to use proper adjectives make sense?

Here's a proper adjective for you, in regards to PJ's playcalling in some of these losses: conservative to the point of being Reaganesque.

Your original post was in response to me saying the inexplicable bad loss thing is overblown…and I used the adjective because I’ve seen it posted here quite a bit.

Oh yeah another part of the mess regarding u athletics. Is the regent set up. A bunch of disassociated mn residents that didn’t give a damn. Listen to the gopher gridiron podcast where Luke B. Talks to a past regent - it’s simply some pastor clown that thought his job was to hold the u accountable to the state . Effing mess.

The Regent System may be messed up -- probably is.

That said, I can tell you with 100% certainty that: (i) I have a close friend who is a regent; (ii) he is a HUGE Gophers sports fan; and (iii) we text back-and-forth during every football/basketball game -- he's watching live every game.

So all is not lost, even though it may be that the system is broken.
