Post Game Thread: Gophers Gutsy in Comeback Win, Bowl Eligible!

I'm 47 years old. How many times am I fandom have we lost games like that. We literally had every penalty called our way and every little thing went our way that could go our way in order for us to win a game we should not have won. It's time to start drinking as it feels good.

If you know any Michigan St fans, don't contact them today. The refs call PI on us in OT, pick it up, then call PI on them on basically the same play. And I'm not sure Lindsey was in. Glad we won, but it was a brutal game. I have my D ready for grade the coaches...

I just can imagine the rage our sparty friends feel.
Ridiculous call on the Gopher PI and rightly overruled; clear PI on the Sparty penalty

lol Does anyone actually think the picked up flag was DPI?

Gophers physically and mentally beat up and dinged up team. This bye week coming up could not have arrived at a better time. This teams needs a break and a breather. A win is a win, are there mistakes and errors yes, but this Gophers team has a lot of fight and will in them to get better. We need to break some tendencies on play calling on offense and use some mis-direction and counter action just like Sparty did today.

Remember when Gopher basketball beat Alabama while the Tide only had 3 players on the floor for 10 minutes? That was a win that sure didn't feel or look like a win. Getting a similar feel after this mess.

That was a crazy crazy game...back in the old days when I still got excited about Gopher basketball.

I was at the game, did someone watching tv get an explanation of how the PI flag got picked up in overtime? I absolutely agree there was not PI, but that cant be reviewed, right? Dont the refs usually confer if there is a dispute before announcing and marching off the penalty? Seems weird to call it, march it off, then huddle and say "oops never mind."

The refs called it, marched off the penalty and then one of the refs on the field was late to the huddle. He came up and argued strongly it was not PI and therefore shouldn't be a flag. So evidently if one ref feels more strongly then the other, they pick it up. It just was unfortunate they all didn't huddle first.

I really don’t think it was ref help. The DPi on us was rightfully overturned and the DPI on them was clear as day. I actually think the only questionable can was the confirmation on the OT touchdown.
And there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn it. Although from what we saw on TV, I would not have been surprised if they did.

Not the same play.... the one they called on us would have been one of the softest PI calls ever. The one on them was a legit call, DB was all over the WR and hit him before the ball got there.

Agree that the bye could not come at a better time. Banged up and need a mental break but can at least go into the bye off a win which is way better then going in off a loss.

Never has a coach needed to change his best relative to game planning and game day coaching and never has a coach been less willing to do so than our guy.
Interesting. He was up 10-0 at half today and by 1 over Nebraska. Against Rutgers and Purdue he was losing at half.

4-0 in those games.

Hey now....don't go letting stuff like facts get in the way.

So what. Why would you want to have 90% of your program be above average and then have your game day planning and game day coaching be somewhere in the bottom 5-10 percentile of division one college football? He must not have a friend group from high school or college or anywhere else that will tell him the truth if I were a head coach and ran the game day ship like he does, my buddies would duct tape me to the goal post.

That’s ridiculous.

You don’t have any friends.

I'm generally pretty optimistic about the team, but that stretch in the middle of the game of 3 and outs was pretty painful. There was a second where I was starting to doubt PJ. Obviously that final drive and subsequent victory helped smooth things out.

In any given week there are several teams with heart wrenching losses (eg Georgia Tech, Miami, Vanderbilt this week) and other teams with tons more resources every season that flounder (PSU, Nebraska). Even in a down season, we are in position to have one of our best B1G records in

With a red shirt freshman QB. A lot of people had a lot of questions coming into this season. A Wisconsin win at minimum means we tie the regular season record of last year's team that had a QB that is a heartbeat away from being a starter in the NFL. And is a win at Northwestern completely off the table? All we can hope is that we get a couple of things fixed on the bye week, and a 2-1 finish over the last quarter of the regular season, putting us at 8-4, would be a success in my book.
