Will be interesting to see how the reshuffled O-Line looks with presumably a healthy DT running behind it this weekend. Hopefully can put some of those concerns to bed though with DT, health will always be a concern.

As for the DC and defense as a whole. Purdue throws a lot because they are behind a lot. Hopefully the D-Line can be a big factor which will in turn take some pressure off the secondary. Purdue puts the ball up for grabs a lot, have to dominate the turnover battle this weekend.

Back to back home night games coming up....hopefully the Bank will be rocking.
 

I just got back from my proctologist. He said that there was a lot of good on the film. I still had some nasty-looking hemorrhoids, but he thought there would be more when he first took a look.
 

On the one hand, I get it...what's he gonna say. But on the other, this is the peak sorta "fuck PJ" feelings I get from time to time.

I'm overall glad with the job he's done - but sometimes he's such a politician that it's hard to see him as an actual person.

Would it be so hard to just say "We got our asses handed to us - and I'm not happy about it." ?

Honestly - that's where I fall on the whole PJ-speak. You gotta take the good with the bad with anyone in your life, but this is the "bad" of PJ.

I mean he did actually say that....not in those exact same words but he flat out admitted we got our butts kicked.

But that only fills a few seconds and the media is going to have more questions so the press conference will continue and he will have to come up with more things to say.

I'm always amazed how bent out of shape people get over coach speak. They're just giving the press some tidbits to keep them happy. All coaches do it and it's all meaningless.

The only thing that matters is what the players are hearing.

Yep and the players are not going to these press conferences for info because they are getting things first hand from the coaches not the sanitized fan/media message.

Fleck has been the same guy since he got here way back in 2017, for those that are per-disposed to get annoyed by what he says in the press conferences.....stop watching the press conferences.

I watch most pressers, but def not one following a loss like that. I was responding to the little info from OP's post. That said, I don't understand how he can't have the intuition to know that any sort of morale victory talk after a loss like that is just gonna not land.

Sometimes all that needs to be said is the part about having your cheeps clapped, lol!

In the end it comes down to no matter what he says or how he says it after a loss in particular someone is going to have a problem with it. (this applies to Fleck and pretty much every other coach).

If he says it is all on him some will rip him for that, if he blames the players he will get ripped for that, if he looks for positivity or moral victories he will get ripped for that.

So after a tough loss coaches get in front of the microphone, try to answer the questions as best they can and get the heck out of there so that they can get to work on trying to find the solutions.

It is an alternate universe. Imagine Vince Lombardi saying that. So if I walk across the street and get hit by a truck in the middle of the street. Fleck would say” you were stylin’ until that truck hit you. There is a lot of good in that the truck almost missed you and that you survived. You just have to work on looking both ways and your speed.

I think you're mixing up seasons. The Michigan team that beat us 52-10 in the 2023 season won the national championship. The year after (2024) they were nothing special but they beat us that year 27-24. We might have tied them at least if the refs didn't waive off our recovered onside kick on a questionable offsides call.

There is coach speak. Then there is the lexicon of PJ Fleck. While intended to be the same, they are not. Coach speak is all generally the same. Very few coaches take it up a notch. PJ's the only one that takes it up seven notches.

I agree the only thing that matters is the players hear from Fleck. Great coach speak for Saturday's game would have been - "sometimes you have a game where you just throw the film away, and start fresh on Sunday" and then several platitudes about things they'll focus on in practice.

Fleck makes "Nuke' Laloosh sound coherent.

And I don't listen to the pressers becuase most everythign out of his mouth is bullshit of one form or another, to go along with his perpetual misuse and abuse of the English language. It's almost as if he believes he's in a contest with the press to see who can say the most ridiculous things in the presser.

I was always a fan of Lloyd Carr's media interactions - he didn't put up with the inane questions.

Sideline Reporter; "Coach, what do you need to do in the second half to turn this game around?" Lloyd Carr: "Score more points than the other team." [turns and walks away, as sideline reporter is trying to figure out how to fill the next :10 of airtime].

People who are always negative are annoying but people who are always positive can be annoying too. Sometimes you have to be willing to say that if something looks like shit and smells like shit, then it must be shit.

True. I actually thought that loss to Michigan was a good loss because it taught the team that they could come back and score in bunches. What irked me about that call is that onside kicks are so difficult to pull off well that you should give the team who does it the benefit of the doubt and not nullify it over a rinky dink infraction.

You definitely don't watch the press conferences....he has toned down a lot of the other stuff from when he was first hired. His press conferences now are very much in line with what you hear from pretty much every coach. The only real difference is that some coaches have an adversarial relationship with the media whereas Fleck is a coach who doesn't seem to mind talking to the media and even kind of enjoys it.

I have no issues with negativity and frustration. Saturday sucked, we got our asses kicked by a really good football team. I just don't see the point of wallowing in or dwelling on the negatives because it gains you nothing.

You like Popovich too? I think the only coach I really enjoy the press conference of is Eric Ramsay, MNUFC coach.
