All Things Cedric Tomes Recruitment Thread (2026 Guard, East Ridge HS, Commits to Gophers)

East Ridge senior quarterback and Gophers basketball recruit Cedric Tomes will miss Friday’s football game against Hopkins and be sidelined up to eight weeks with a broken finger.

Currently in a cast, Tomes is expected to have surgery Thursday on his left index finger and non-shooting hand.

The 6-1 dual-threat signal caller suffered the fracture four plays into last Thursday’s 41-0 opening loss at Minnetonka.

“It’s not too long of a recovery, so I’m excited to get that going,” Tomes told Strib Varsity. “I was taking an outside zone and running the ball. A helmet hit my finger. I got up and didn’t really feel the pain at first, but I looked down and my finger was sideways.”

Go Gophers!!

Admittedly, I have not seen Cedric play, but, some who have, indicate he needs to seriously work on his foot speed. Fortunately, foot speed can be improved through concentrated effort!

You’re slow you’re probably going to stay slow. Hopefully the some who indicated are wrong.

One's foot speed can be increased. From quick to quicker. From slow to not as slow. Not saying Cedric is slow, just saying foot speed can be made quicker through hard work and commitment in order to compete in the Big Ten.

East Ridge senior quarterback and Gophers basketball recruit Cedric Tomes has been cleared to play after recovering from a broken finger.

Tomes had surgery on his left index finger after he was injured during a Sept. 2 loss against Minnetonka. It’s uncertain whether he will start Friday against rival Stillwater.

A 6-1 dual-threat player, Tomes combined for 1,678 yards and 20 touchdowns passing and rushing last season.

A healthy diagnosis for Tomes is also a good sign for his senior year in basketball at East Ridge. He joined fellow Class of 2026 commit Nolen Anderson of Wayzata on an official visit with the Gophers last weekend.
