Not at sll what I'm saying... I just don't agree with what you said: "Talent wise gophers were outmanned. The gameplan was ok. MN got beat by better players plain and simple."You really put the loss on the coaching?
Gophers needed to have a running game in order to even keep this game competitive. That's on the coaching staff and it's been a concern since last year. Not at sll what I'm saying... I just don't agree with what you said: "Talent wise gophers were outmanned. The gameplan was ok. MN got beat by better players plain and simple."
I don't believe we used the talent we do have to anywhere near its' potential. Perich and the QB I don't believe were put in optimum circumstances to utilize their talent and succeed..
Obviously Ohio St has more talent and more money. We just didn't utilize the talent we do have
to it's maximum effectiveness is where I disagree..
Example: How much more talent and resources does Penn State have over UCLA? Yet, UCLA switches offensive coordinators and scores 42 points against a superior opponent after 10 and 14 points under the previous coach versus lesser competition.
Our game plan was not ok is my feeling
I hope this is wrong but I do wonder what the defense would look like if Hetherman was at the helm. Still pulling for Collins but hmm.Danny Collins is a big step down from Hetherman and Rossi
So let me understand, we malign our coaching staff a week after our qb throws for over 300 in a comeback win because said qb wasn't put in an "optimum circumstance" to beat the best defense in the country on their turf in front of 110k of their fans (mind you the first drive was pretty great)? And that's comparable to PSU, who notoriously falters at random times, traveling the entire country to play a team with absolutely nothing to lose how? Our season is very much in play and we still have three rivals we're very invested in defeating. And don't get me started on our defense, where these secondary was readily identified prior to the season as being extremely green and having to defend two top 15 receivers. Not at sll what I'm saying... That tells the tale. We had no running game and should have pulled a Mike Leach, passing on every down - the old Pirate would have put on a show in Columbus - probably losing, but putting up a fight and doing some scoring. PJ kept trying to play a regular game (run defense not bad, but pass defense out to lunch). If you know the other team is going to score at will, you toss out the normal game plan of mixing passes with runs. You go Pirate.10 of 13 plays on 1st drive were passes. Went 17 passes, 21 runs the rest of the way.
How close were we to having Leach back in the post Mason and then post Brewster eras? That tells the tale. I believe 7 passes total in the 2nd half. That tells the tale. I am trying to think back and in the last 8 years the best three teams other than those 4 are:Outside of OSU, PSU, Oregon, and Michigan no one has put together a team that can compete for the big10 title in the last 8 years.
Yeah well if they had done that the whole game it would’ve finished 77-3That tells the tale. We are not going to reach common ground here. We disagree. That's fine.So let me understand, we malign our coaching staff a week after our qb throws for over 300 in a comeback win because said qb wasn't put in an "optimum circumstance" to beat the best defense in the country on their turf in front of 110k of their fans (mind you the first drive was pretty great)? We were also competing against Matt Patricia, not some faceless DC who you can make some scribbles on the whiteboard at halftime and magically counter. This isn't Cfb 25, it's real life. We were outclassed at every single position and staff spot before the first snap.
Talent disparity and inexperience were the primary problem last night, and then coaching to miniscule extent. Fleck and Co could call the games of their lives, but without OSU making mistakes, they score 42 every time. If the refs make every call correctly, we lose 35-10 at best. This year's Gopher team is not a national title contender or anywhere in the playoff orbit, Ohio State is. People need to sift through their frustration and anger and see things for the reality it is this year. Refilling the trophy case and landing 8/9 wins with a brand new qb should be the goal.
