All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Hyper-inflated negativity seems to the MO here

This was not a neutral site, it was a Pittsburgh home site. They had Pittsburgh PA guy over there hyping the crowd up for every big Vikings 3rd down (to stop the Vikings). Ton of loud & drunk Steelers fans there, it appeared.

It's 5 hours ahead of Eastern time, a jump across the pond. Not like it was in India

And -- because of course he isn't -- Rodgers is/was not washed.
Finally something I agree with Mr. Football on - I think this name may stick 😎.

Isiah has lots of good ball left.

For sure some throws he wish he could have back, but he did plenty enough to win the game on offense.

Speaking of the Giants ... they beat the Chargers.

The League is all over the place. Stop hyper-reacting to every single play of every game. Long season

That puts the Giants only 1 game behind the Vikings in the Wild Card chase.

No different than the Giants let Saquon Barkley go ...

They would've brought them back, but we offered more money.
We can't stop the run.

So you tell me what the problem is?

As a "glass half full type of guy" for SNF, neither of my two most hated teams came out with a victory in the Packers-Cowboys 40-40 tie.

Also as of right NOW, AI is stupid.

Sounds like it might be an MCL for O’Nell, per KOC and Kelly might be done for good (?). See story below -

Vikings Could Lose Key Offensive Lineman To MCL Injury

And it seems with O’Neill, who went down with a knee injury after a field goal in the first quarter, the team has an idea of what the issue could be, per head coach, Kevin O’Connell.

“Injury wise,” O’Connell said to the media in the aftermath of the 24-21 loss, “Brian O’Neill will have an MRI tonight [for his] knee.”

“I was out there when they evaluated him, don’t want to get too far ahead from the standpoint of what it might be but it sounded like they were talking about his MCL, so that’s one they’ll have to evaluate.”

O’Connell mentioned that the two-time Pro Bowler made a strong effort – despite his potentially serious injury diagnosis – to get back onto the field, but alas he was not able to continue playing.

“I know he was trying to do everything in his power to tape it up and see if he could go; one of the toughest guys on our team, so I know he would have absolutely tried to get back out there if he could. We’ll evaluate him and see where he’s at.”

O’Neill has been a mainstay on the Vikings’ offensive line ever since being selected in the second round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Pittsburgh. Now in his eighth season, the Delaware native has never missed more than three games in any individual season.

Ryan Kelly’s Concussions Starting To Become An Issue

Back to the interior of the offensive line, center Ryan Kelly suffered his second concussion in just over two weeks, after a collision in week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons forced him to sit out week 3’s blowout of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kevin O’Connell addressed this issue in the presser, adding that any decision with regards to his availability moving forward will be left up to the discretion of the medical staff.

“The health of our players is always the beginning, the end, and the middle of that conversation,” O’Connell continued. “So we’ll totally defer to the doctors and we’ll defer to the protocol. And then ultimately, we’re gonna want to make sure Ryan’s in a good place. That’s not anything I particularly ever want to mess around with, so we’ll be smart. Definitely not my lane to weigh in on those things until we get to that place.”

Further updates will likely come in as the tests come back for both Kelly and O’Neill. But at this point, things are looking far from ideal.

QB is, far and away, not our biggest issue. Its the o-line (even more precarious with the injuries) and stopping the run on defense (Cashman out doesn't help).
Not sure how we'll fix those issues at this point. Hopefully O'Neil only misses a game or two.

Yes. This. Watching the game, I thought Wentz played tentatively, especially early on; definitely not a "no fear" attitude. But after further review, you could make a case that Wentz balled out, stood there and took a beating and kept the Vikings in the game and almost stole one. The OL was a revolving door, there was no winning that game with the group that finished the game up front.

I remember Wentz being more mobile, more of an athlete; wowzers, he was a statue back there, but then again, the number of times he faced rushers unabated to the quarterback was just frightening. Holy shit. Zero chance.

Ireland was just plain f*cking awesome. What a job they did putting on the game and the city hosting the event.

Hope you got in a Guinness tour. One of my favorite things to do in Dublin. That and great bar hopping.

Barring what happens with the injury reports as the week goes on, I can't imagine how the Vikings opened up as a 3.5 pt favorite against the Browns in London. Assuming no O'Neill, no Jackson, and possibly no Kelly (?), how in the world will the Vikings generate any offense against that Cleveland defense? I think Cleveland wins outright the way things stand right now.

Also, how bad is Rouse if he can't beat out Skule by now? If we never see Skule playing again, it would still be too soon. And who is going to play Center Sunday?

Yes and no. They actually closed down the Guinness Storehouse facility for our group one night, like 8:30p-11p, we had our run of the place (hundreds of Steelers fans, ugghhh); but the downside is that we didn't get an actual "tour" where you walk through, this is how we make the beer, etc. Still cool to have a night of all you can eat and all you can drink and wander around the brewery

I’m not a big injury excuse advocate, but this is kind of mind boggling when you think of it; if we had a healthier line we beat Pittsburgh and are 3-1 🤷‍♂️.

Vikings Offensive Line Hasn’t Been Whole for Single Snap All Season

Vikings Offensive Line Hasn’t Been Whole for Single Snap All Season

Any time O’Neill misses is going to prove problematic for a Vikings offensive line that has struggled to stay healthy and perform all season long. O’Neill is a two-time Pro Bowler (2021, 2024) and currently playing on a five-year, $92.5 million deal that runs through 2026.

Minnesota poured substantial resources into the unit after it faltered down the stretch last season, both in Week 18 against the Detroit Lions and more pointedly over Super Wildcard Weekend in a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Vikings drafted Jackson with their first-round pick after paying guard Will Fries a total of $88 million and center Ryan Kelly a total of $18 million to leave the Indianapolis Colts in free agency and shore up the interior of the O-line.

Kelly has played in three of four games, but left Week 2 early with a concussion and missed Week 3. Jackson is out with a wrist injury that required surgery and won’t return before Week 7. Starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw missed the first two games of the year as he rehabilitated from torn knee ligaments that ended his 2024 season in the middle of the campaign.

In fact, at no point have all five starters been on the field together at the same time in 2025. Due to Jackson’s return timetable, there was no chance they’d get a snap together until Week 7. It is now unclear if that will still be the case based on O’Neill’s injury. The Vikings have a bye in Week 6 after they return from their two-week jaunt to the United Kingdom.

I don’t think Kelly takes another snap. This article describes this as being his 7 or 8th total concussion.

He might not, but the way "Heavy" writes its headlines is such over the top click-bait. "200 million QB gets devastating news" and it's just Russel Wilson getting benched again.

The O'Neal injury news is actually good. We'll see about Kelly.

A couple of questions for others regarding Kelly's injury status if he's forced to retire:

1. Would Kelly receive any money from his remaining contract due to the fact it was an employment/work related injury?

2. Would the Vikings receive any salary cap relief from the remaining contract?

It’s clickbait and annoying, but they do a through job in the reporting and presenting good info; I credit the OTB for raising my tolerance.

If it’s actually his 7/8 concussion and he was reasonably responsible with his cash, he definitely should hang them up, not easy, but beats mumbling to yourself in your 50/60s (hard enough not to do it without CTE, no jokes) or harming yourself.

Thee Browns ironically acquired Cam Robinson from the Jags.

If I'm not mistaken, a good bunch of it would be covered by insurance (not sure?) and I THINK they would get some cap relief, not all. It would probably depend on which parts are salary and which were signing bonus
