Oh FFSI won't disagree about the defensive playcalling but we've gained over 300 offensive yards, thrown the ball almost 30 times, and converted 50% of our third downs. That's not amazing but I'd consider it good, esp against a power five defense with a freshman qb facing his first P5 opponent on the road. Harbaugh is easy to bag on with the timing of certain play calls but we have three downs to get a first down. Guys need to execute on first and second down. We had the offensive scheme to win and showed some moxie on a number of drives in the second and third quarters, the turtling on defense just put too much pressure on the offense throughout the game. Perich's muff altered the game entirely.
We tend to focus on the worst parts of the game because we're angry and this is our team. It sucks, but I'm not ready to give up on the season after this one. It's pretty clear Drake has been given a lot of latitude to run the offense and he's only a freshman, there's a ton to look forward to.
The Vikings break my heart plenty over the years with their losses, but I dont find myself wondering "what the heck was KOC thinking there?" nearly as often i do with FleckI mean, I can pick two dead ears of corn in a field of thriving ones and tell you the crop is shit, too.
They're a middling ACC team. QB with potential. Koi single handedly screwed his teammates today.California isn’t an inferior team.
Better QB and better coaching staff.
Lol watLooks like another trip to Detroit and the Music City Bowl.
We're going to two bowls?Looks like another trip to Detroit and the Music City Bowl.
Fleck is a good program builder and above average recruiter. He's not a good game day coach. He needs strong coordinators. I don't think he has them right now.The Vikings break my heart plenty over the years with their losses, but I dont find myself wondering "what the heck was KOC thinking there?" nearly as often i do with Fleck
And the Gophers are a middling B1G team who are on the same level as Cal.They're a middling ACC team. QB with potential. Koi single handedly screwed his teammates today.
Nah Bowling Green and that Northwestern comeback come to mindThat has to be one of the worst losses in the Fleck era. Unprepared and undisciplined.
LayoverWe're going to two bowls?
You can watch JJ McCarthy twice in-betweenUndisciplined play, gonna be a long two weeks waiting for next game
Also Cal has three ex coaches on staffThey’re not inferior, and they have a top 20 overall/top 5 QB recruit who looks like he could start anywhere in the country.
Gophers got out coached, but Cal isn’t inferior.
There's a reason one guy is coaching in the NFL and the other is coaching a mid tier B10 programThe Vikings break my heart plenty over the years with their losses, but I dont find myself wondering "what the heck was KOC thinking there?" nearly as often i do with Fleck
180 posts over the last 6 years without one positive comment, so fascinating that fans like this exist. And we fans reward this mediocrity. Fleck would have been fired in most Big10 programs.
That’s kind of how it’s supposed to work when comparing nfl and college coaches. The Vikings break my heart plenty over the years with their losses, but I dont find myself wondering "what the heck was KOC thinking there?" nearly as often i do with Fleck
Too early to give up on the kid, but our QB certainly wasn’t gonna throw him the ball again today.I wanna see Kenric Lanier, Malachi Coleman, Bradley Martino and Nuke Hayes.
One of them has to be better than Jalen Smith (which hurts me to say as a Mankato West football alum).
How about when the Gophers were driving in the 4th quarter and 2 running plays in a row are called on second and third down and neither could make it when we have one of the best young passers in the country, then a penalty that pushed a field goal try to 51 yards?Nope
The trick play was just insane. He also calls time outs when his team is exuding momentum on offense.I mean, I can pick two dead ears of corn in a field of thriving ones and tell you the crop is shit, too.
I’m not giving up on him, i just feel like the guys I mentioned haven’t sniffed any action. a huge deal was made about Coleman coming here and he’s a big body that we desperately need, I’ve also heard them talk big about Lanier and Nuke but crickets come gameday. I understand Martino if they want to redshirt him but at some point just play your talent.Too early to give up on the kid, but our QB certainly wasn’t gonna throw him the ball again today.
Exactly meanwhile our successful coordinators keep getting poached and we replace them with guys that lack experience. Also Cal has three ex coaches on staff
Bryan Harsin
Nick Rolovich
Ron Rivera
Ive always considered Washington a good comparison point. Big city, pro sports, not a historical dynasty (though some stretche
There isn't a plural in there, and we'll see if the question is asked... and then answered. Why would anyone try to field a punt at or inside the 5 yard line. Didn't the Gophers do it twice tonight?
Matt, the offense scored 14 points. They scored 27 with a 5 yard TD drive and a FG when the game was over. Hard to win with 14 points. All three phases lost this game, but it was mostly due to defense and special teams.
