All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

I don't love giving up the 4th for him at all, but so be it. A JJ-Addison-Thielen trio with Hockenson at TE could be pretty lethal when Addison is back though. JJM couldn't ask for a much better situation to step into.

A little further explanation on the conditional nature of the 2025 7th round pick the Vikings are getting from Carolina, related to Thielen's overall health, but more specifically the concern over the hamstring injury that Thielen had last season; injuries which can most definitely linger.

>>These are two of the reasons the Vikings sought to add conditions to the seventh-round pick for 2025. If Thielen isn’t active for 10 games, or if he isn’t on the 53-man roster for 14 games, the Vikings’ pick will become a sixth-rounder."

An awful lot to give up and a lot of cash for a LB/Edge Rusher.

Good luck to them.

They sent an impact DL and two 1st rounders, AND had to sign that massive contract. Granted, the two 1st rounders are likely to be later in the 1st, that's still a lot.

I like Jordan Love as a QB. I wanted the Vikings to draft him that spring. But I think he's a pretty good, not great/elite, QB.

As for the Bears and Williams, this can't be good news. They are still relatively unsettled at OT, and then this happens. Ouch

Parsons is a really good player. He's also overrated. He's a 10 rusher for sure. Maybe top 5. Definitely not top 3.

I agree. Also of note in this trade, two of the teams in the same division as the Packers have OT combinations of Sewell/Decker and Darrisaw/O'Neill; Sewell could be the best player in the NFL, Darrisaw (if he stays healthy now) is easily one of the elite OTs in the league. Decker and O'Neill are no slouches either.

FWIW, Gruden doesn't think he deserves to be the highest paid defensive player in the league. Skip thinks he is severely overrated

Parsons certainly makes the Packers better for 2025. But that's a lot to give up and a rough cap situation going forward. If they don't at least make the Super Bowl it becomes a bad trade fast imo.

Packers eating $35M in dead cap after sending Kenny Clark to the Cowboys. Damn, that's a massive hit. This sure seems like a move that says you're all-in, and I just don't see it. Playoffs, sure. Making noise in the postseason? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

They still have Jordan love and a set of WRs who are mediocre at best and now got much worse defending the run. I don’t even know if this trade made them that much “better” other than they are making GM moves like it’s fantasy football. Same way Jalen Ramsey got traded around and signed a ton for way too much

Interesting article regarding Theilen trade and how he drive the process, quotes Panthers GM Dan Morgan, as well.

Nice to see his be willing to listen and open to the trade.

Reason why Panthers traded WR Adam Thielen to the Vikings revealed and it explains everything

On Wednesday morning, the Minnesota Vikings struck a trade with the Carolina Panthers to acquire wide receiver Adam Thielen.

It was evident that the Vikings needed to make a move to acquire a wide receiver, but what level of player they were going to bring in was in question. Jordan Addison's impending three-game suspension was the biggest reason for a move, and Thielen fits the bill in more ways than one.

The Vikings were motivated to make a move, and Thielen fits not just as a talent, but he's already built up a rapport with J.J. McCarthy and has played in head coach Kevin O'Connell's offense before during the 2022 season.

Adam Thielen drove trade to Vikings

We've heard a lot about how the trade ended up going down from multiple perspectives. The Vikings obviously wanted it to help McCarthy to start the season, and it also opens up the Panthers to play their multiple young players more snaps.

What we didn't know was who drove the trade. According to Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan, it was Thielen who drove the trade and he said so during an appearance on The Kyle Bailey Show in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"We have a young group of guys that we're really excited about here, and it's kind of hard. And I sat Adam Thielen down in my office, and he really wants to go there [Minnesota], and he's pretty adamant that this is what I want. I didn't really want to stand in his way. It was something that he was really convicted about. He wanted to go and finish his career there. Obviously, he's from there. He has a house there, he has young kids. There's a human side to it.

"But at the same time, in my mind, I knew that I had to do what was best for the Carolina Panthers. So I wasn't going to give him away. A few offers that they did send over that would have been a giveaway, but I was back and forth their GM [Kwesi Adofo-Mensah] up there. Myself, Brandt Tilis, and Eric Eager, sitting in the room going through all these trade scenarios that we felt would like work for us and where we would be at the advantage. And at the end of the day, we sent [Thielen] there, we agreed to it. You know, that's kind of hard to, you know, Adam being so adamant to go there. It was just kind of hard for me to stand in this way and be here and, maybe be disgruntled. They need to be fine. But we would have to find that out."

It makes a lot of sense that Thielent would want to come back. He is from Minnesota and has bulit a rapport with McCarthy. Plus, the Vikings are now firmly in a Super Bowl window, and Thielen makes that potential even stronger.

The pop that Thielen gets from the crowd when he returns to U.S. Bank Stadium is going to be massive, ad he will have earned every part of it.

Sounds like Thielen took a $2 million pay cut in order to return. Kind of a neat wrinkle to this whole deal.

Says a lot of positive things regarding all parties involved.

Sap 🚨-

His career has been a Cinderella story and wouldn’t it be a kick if he outperformed everyone’s expectations and helped lead us to a nice playoff run 🤠.

I’m old enough to remember when Ricky Bell made the Vikings out of St. John’s and we wanted to be him in our backyard 🏈 games. He showed a small town Minny kid could make it.

Just think how many Adam Thielens there have been in MN backyards!

For our young stars, here’s a link regarding Mr. Bell -

Beanie Back??

I was dismissive of Heavy, however they wre right about the Theilen trade and this would seem like a good fit for QB depth. At a nominal cost -

The Minnesota Vikings have just four cornerbacks on their roster as of August 31, and while that’s likely to change, they might want to consider adding one young DB in particular.

Beanie Bishop is currently tucked away on the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ practice squad, but he’s the kind of player who doesn’t stay hidden for long. For a Vikings team thin at corner and built around Brian Flores’ demand for aggressive, play-making defensive backs, Bishop should be on the Vikings’ radar.

What makes Bishop such an intriguing option is the fact that he’s already proven he can climb every rung of the ladder, from overlooked recruit to college All-American to playmaker in the NFL.

The Vikings don’t just need another body at corner — they need someone with upside who won’t shrink in big moments. Bishop’s history shows that when given an opportunity, he has consistently delivered. Let’s break down why the Vikings should poach him from the Steelers.

A Look at Bishop’s Journey to the NFL

Steelers' cut Beanie Bishop Jr makes sense as waiver claim candidate for Giants.

At Western Kentucky, Bishop steadily built a reputation as a scrappy corner who refused to back down from anything or anyone. He logged 76 tackles, 12 pass breakups and three interceptions across 36 games for the Hilltoppers before transferring to Minnesota for a single season in 2022.

His true breakout came the following year at West Virginia, where Bishop turned into a Consensus All-American. He led the nation in passes defended (24), picked off four passes and racked up 67 total tackles.
Despite putting up solid numbers, Bishop went undrafted in 2024. That didn’t stop him from making an immediate impact with the Steelers, though. He made the 53-man roster, played all 17 games, starting six, and finished with 45 tackles, seven passes defended and four interceptions — including a memorable stretch in October where he intercepted Aaron Rodgers twice in one primetime game.

That run earned him NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month honors, showing he wasn’t just another camp body but a legit contributor who could hold his own against top competition.

That’s partly why his getting cut came as a shock to many fans and analysts.

Minnesota Vikings Should Sign CB Beanie Bishop Off Steelers’ Practice Squad

Bishop has quick feet, is sticky with his coverage and has decent instincts — and that’s what defensive coordinator Brian Flores likes in his DBs. Bishop isn’t just a coverage guy either. His willingness to play downhill and mix it up in the run game also matches what Flores asks of his nickel corners.

The Vikings went light at corner on cutdown day, carrying just four on the 53-man roster — a razor-thin number for a league where nickel and dime looks are essentially base defense. Byron Murphy Jr.and Isaiah Rodgers are capable starters, but depth behind them is shaky at best. Bishop would give them an instant option in the slot, and he could also contribute on special teams, which makes him even more valuable as a game-day active.

Practice squad players can be signed to any team’s active roster, with only a three-week salary guarantee. For a 25-year-old who has already produced in both college and the NFL, signing Bishop feels like a no-brainer for the Vikings.
