Not to mention that they are not very good comparisons. Neither Carter nor Moss are from the entitled rich coddled background. In fact just the opposite. And both had their personal issues but for the most part were good teammates and liked by their colleagues.
There is such a variance in opinion of his actual performance in college. The raw numbers look good but he had some tough times against the actual good teams they faced despite excellent receivers and a pass happy offense. And many of the numbers against the good teams came in junk time when a QB can pile up stats. His OL was bad so that is a check in the other column.

I’ve got a friend who played with Carter on the Vikes. They’d play pick up games of different things. I asked him who was better at stuff. He said whatever team had Cris Carter on it won. It didn’t matter what they were playing.
Once we saw Max get run down by the 300 lb NC player we knew we had a pocket passer.
The thing about him is he has "enough" talent to play in the NFL but he tries to make plays like he's Patrick Mahomes. In college, you're going to get away with that a lot more than in the NFL. I think he's likely to be a turnover machine in the NFL. If he focused more on making the right play rather than trying to make the flashy play he might be a serviceable QB. I do not see him being a top half of the league QB. I think ceiling is bottom half starter or a good backup. Maybe Andy Dalton in his prime sort of level.
He also torched some really good teams with an awful OL and zero RB.
I just don't see that with him.
It will be very interesting to see how his NFL career unfolds. As a first round or early round pick he had massive bust potential.....as a fifth round guy who has to work and earn his spot anything is possible. He clearly has a lot of raw talent, the question that will get answered is if he has the intangibles to be a QB in the NFL.....very few guys do.
Amen about avoiding all that. The moment things don't go his way he and/or his dad chirping away and the sports media acting like a megaphone for that kind of clown behavior ... man who needs that stuff?
He was an alternate in 2011 & 2014.

It's not that I disagree with anything you posted but I've seen guys with much more serious character flaws (and less talent) get drafter higher than Sanders. You wanna draft Jaxon Dart in front of him? Ok. You want to draft Gabriel or Shough ahead of him? I just don't get it.
Yes, Mayfield and Manziel come to mind but I take that the NFL learned a lesson on those two that you don't take QBs that high with that serious of character flaws. Maybe if Mayfield and Manziel not been the way they were relatively soon to Sanders he may have gotten less heat for his attitude.
I think there is a tendency to look at all character issues the same.
I wasn't comparing anyone other than saying they all had character issues. Not the same issues but they all had character issues. And Jamarcus Russell and Manziel are similar in character but at least Russell actually had the raw talent so that was more understandable why someone might take a chance on him.
Sounds much like Cris Carter to me. And for the record OSU = spoiled.
